    WooHoo! Sold my first computer!

Hey everyone I sold my first computer and I'm pretty excited! To be honest my business isn't still fully up yet but we're really close. Things such as the website and advertising isn't complete but we have a lot of people already interested in buying them. I think this is pretty good considering this is just going to be a part time thing. Having sold one helps me get over the hump of starting a business to running a business!

congrats on the first sale. I have a question though. How do you make a profit from building computers? I build my own computers, but after buying everything (especially the OS) it is usually cheaper to just buy a mass produced comp. (Dell, Gateway Etc.)
Just wondering, because I wouldn't mind building a few for some people I know. (Don't worry, I'm not going to be any competition, I'm sure!) haha.

    thanks!

You've sold 100 and made no profit?

    Why bother?

Well really you need to have the right contacts with either manufactures (If you're building them) or used computer resellers. We can get our products for a really good price and then sell them locally to make our profit. However the best way is to actually offer your service to businesses to recycle their older computers for them. You can get their PC's for next to nothing and possibly sell them for 200% profit or whatever.

Honestly though I don't plan on making a lot of profit from this business I'm just using this as a stepping stone for learning how to invest. I figured one of the best ways to learn is to start your own business!

Not sure I understand...Do you mean you don't build them and sell them as new, but rather buy old computers and resell them? I see how this could work as you cut out the biggest expense in building a computer (the OS).

And before you say it, yes I know processors, motherboards and video cards can be more expensive than the OS, but to build a usable computer that will work for most people (not gamers), the most expensive component is the $100+ OS.

Sorry to threadjack! just thought this was the best place to ask the question!
