Will this count as a company?

Hi, I have a question. Ill try to make this short. Im young guy just graduated college with finance diploma, passed my mutual fund license exam, and am currently saving up to take the courses to allow me to write my financial planning certificate.

I have been investing in small cap/micro cap resource company for several years now with my own capital. I research these things almost 24/7, and yes it is fun for me. But I have seen many opportunities go to waste cause I dont have the $$$.

I should mention Recently due to health problem I am crippled and cant really walk much, doctors dont know what it is, I am waiting to see a dermatologist next. Because of this I spend much time trying to make money from home now cause im broke for obvious reasons.

Anyways I recently stumbled upon a website that sends you everything you need to apply for government grants and or low interest or no interest loans from hundreds of provincial and federal government programs. It cost rounded UP 500 bucks and is fully tax refundable. They give these out to start up companys as well as already established ones.

I was wondering if this would classify as a legitimate business that would let me apply for these grants. The company I would create would simply invest in small cap resource companies as ive been doing already (similar to a holding company or a closed end mutual fund). I need no employees, no salary and I have the equipment i need already (Laptop, and free long distance). I dont have any cash to put in but i can donate my current stock portfolio for asset value.

The guy I talked on the phone with selling the package seems to think it is legit and could potentially work.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Would this actually work? And what are my chances of actually gettin somethin out of the government?

    Thanks in advance

    Before you pay $500

    Hi Sparta,

Visit Grants.gov before you go on paying this person anything. Most grants that the government gives out are for funding research and innovation that will benefit the general public, federal agencies and its conglomerates, improvement of systems, and ones that have environmental impacts.

I'm afraid your cause does not count.

Im sure their are plenty of charities that would be glad to give you a loan, also see if you can become apart of any credit unions.

    what a strange question

you know perfectly well that the answer depends on the selection criteria arbitarily attached to these grants programs

in my experience, however, the answer is no. financial services firms are not the perfect candidates for these programs.

these programs are PRIMARILY designed to help US exporters, and/or job creators

Unless you are gonna be exporting, creating jobs, or working on public welfare problems (i.e. health, housing, transport, childcare etc), you are gonna be at a disadvantage to other applicants
