Why hasn't this been "invented" yet?

You remember, how in High School, everyone was asked to create an invention of some sort? I remember, in each of those projects, at least one person came up with this idea: a microwave that cooled things instead of heating.

I am thinking now...why hasn't this been created yet? I mean, everyone knows about this already, it must be out there, but I haven't heard of anything.

its called a fridge.... j/k

im not sure.. maybe one reason we dont see alot of it could be the cost factor involved... cooling is essentially slowing down molecules... heating is the reverse.. and it does not take nearly as much effort to get the desired results when your looking to generate heat....

personally if something like this came about.. id be...... intrigued..

If something like this came out, I'd definitely be interested. An invention like this is more for people who drink a lot, and eat cold food.

You can't cool things down with a microwave....they use microwaves. Plus this cooling device you speak of already exists, most people refer to it as a freezer.

Two things:

1. Sounds interesting - and Robyang! I think he meant a machine that can cool things at an extremely fast pace - something a Freezer doesn't really do (doesn't freeze as fast as a microwave heats).

2. Robyang! makes me wanna...well...check out the my avatar

You try to be the smart one on YE don't you? ...I don't mind, but others may. Its a good idea to keep this in mind when you're dealing with others.

Thanks for correcting me, though. After all, you knew what I was talking about.

As ericesquire explained, a freezer does not nearly cool things as a microwave heats. I was talking about something like that. Select the time, and have a drink cold within seconds.

Back to the Future? I can't think of anything.

Nobody needs it, thats why.

Cost isn't the issue. What purpose would this invention serve that isnt being served already by a freezer or fridge?

I can't imagine an instance where I've ever wished I had a some sort of 'reverse microwave' when I have a fridge and freezer.

I suspect that the makers of home appliances havent either. Not yet anyway....

I actually store sodas in the garage, adn when i bring htem in, they're at room temp. No one likes warm sodas, so I usually put them in the freezer. The freezer takes (i forgot how long)I think 5 hours to chill the soda, and it will either explode the soda, or it won't be cold enough.

I think this is a good idea.

I think this is a good idea as well.

When you have a party for example..... the fridge only holds so many cans (beer or cola) ... which means that once the cans in the fridge are used ... then the rest are warm.

Most food processing companies use a process called "flash freezing", but when you get something invented that I can put on the kitchen counter let me know and I'll start buying stock.

In all honesty, I think it's a great idea...I say run with it!
