Arrow Why College is the Perfect Time to Start a Company

Check out this article about starting a business in college. It does a nice job of highlighting some of the unique resources available to college students, such as professional software, professors, venture capital, cheap labor, etc. I'm in college now and I couldn't agree more that college is a good time to start your own business (if not before).

Yes, especially if you are at Western Carolina University where they offer both a BA and a MA in Entrepreneurship. My biz associate Dr. Frank Lockwood is a former venture capitalist and involved in 20 start ups or more. Can't beat those opportunities!

I'm sure you can find others at your college too.

I would say you are right to a level, however i would say on a small scale. Once your business becomes to big you will drop out of college. The point of going to college is to finish and get your degree.

Woo hoo! College is the perfect time to start! Good, glad I'm getting started, then .

Although, just as some encouragement for anyone who might be "young at heart" - Amazon.com was founded by someone in his 30s.

Someone, PLEASE Tell me how I can get my college to give me a grant!!! I would love some info on this,

Also, yes i agree, college is the 2nd best time to start a business, high school being the best. Basically high school has all the benefits of college but on a much higher level. I wish I was able to form some static business during high school, most of what I have done during high school, I no longer do, BUT, i learned alot during those early years.

Anyways, some info about that grant would be spectacular!

Here's all the small business grant info you need. For those not inclined to do the reading the short answer is "there are no grants for small businesses" contrary to what the always reliable people on late night informercials would have you believe.

In high school you have NO expenses, school is free, "rent" is free, food is free, all utilities are free. Also high school classes are a joke, if you want to do good in college you actually have to study thus it would take more time away from business. In high school you can basically work on business during class. The article said "minimal responsibilties" well going to college is where you are supposed to learn to be responsible, So i guess you have less responsibilities in HS.

But, then again it may depend on what type of business you are in as college does have some benefits you cant find in high school

Well thats what i figured, I just didnt know if getting a grant from the college is different, but then again, a college gets its money from the government (if public) so there are probably the same guidelines. And I wasnt looking for a grant as much as just cheap money.
