    Who should I hire?

I have an online business and I'm the sole employee. It's doing well and I want to take this to a new level. What kind of person should I post an ad for to have them find me new authors for my ebooks, new customers to buy them, etc. The title of marketing director or business development don't seem to fit these roles. Any ideas where I should post an ad and what category to place it under would be really helpful. Thanks guys.

Perhaps freelancer.com? Sounds like you're looking for a promoter? Or a writer?

Are you looking to have someone run the whole thing? Replace you in other words? Dont worry about the title. Figure out EXACTLY what you are looking for and THEN worry about the title. It sounds to me like you have more then one different job tied up into one thing. Talent recruiter and marketing director, two different people. You could TRY to find someone to handle both, but not likely you will find someone with that broad of a skill set(and do a decent job at both!).

Start with this. Write down the major things you need accomplished
-I need to increase the traffic to my website->This will require a long term and short term plan->Can I do this? If no, then I know I need to find someone who has that skill
-I need to find more writers->Where?how?->Can I do this?If no, then I need someone who can
-I need to improve my website code/functionality/etc->can i do this? if no, then I need that person

Once you have done that see if any of the stuff you listed is relative, and if so you may be able to bundle it together, but most likely it will be different individuals. Now you can start asking about titles. Position A has these duties so they are This title. Once you know the title and duties you can find out expected wages by doing some research.

I can give you more info on this topic once you have made a little progress. Feel free to inbox me if you like.

really what your dealing with here is Corporate strategy. Capital and financials will become a major factor in these types of decisions so be prepared for that also.

Really appreciate the good advice. I will take that approach, Chris, and let you know how it goes. Do you recommend any specific way to find candidates (craigslist vs. monster.com vs agency)? I don't really want to deal with health benefits, etc. just for 1 employee.

Well I usually post on kijiji(the canada equivalent of craigslist) first. I get a ton of replies in most cases of course depending ont he position. A resume and candidate are what they are regardless of where they see your ad. If you dont have success on craigslist or another free site I would try monster or classifieds. IF I were still having issues I would maybe try an agency or ask business contacts for recommendations. I think I would look to a head hunter if it was a more professional position such as an executive form a particular industry or a individual with a less common degree. Glad to have helped, keep me posted.

craigslist started charging $25 per position - but still less expensive than the other ones. I will try it out once I've got my objectives. Thanks and best wishes.

These are 7 tips to hire best employees:
    1. Ask your current employees for referral.
    2. Check how often they have changed jobs in the past.
    3. Ask behavioral questions in the interview.
    4. Do a team interview.
    5. Perform background check.
    6. Be prepared to pay more
    7. Finally, always be on the lookout for good employees.

    Hi,

If you're about to get a person to do in business part, I am sure you need to carefully select a proper benefits sharing model. I don't feel like hiring a staff with Fix salary will do good. Just make sure that the person who will take this responsibility will get high reward from high performance and vice versa.

Another problem I'm looking at is that I don't have an office (beside my home office), so I can't keep track of another employee. It's hard paying salary + commission for a home-based job that I can't monitor.

Sounds like you need a business development consultant. I own LinkSqaure whihc is a recruitment solutions business purely for small business, entrepreneurs and new startups. We already work with new startups across the globe, if you like I could assist you with you're recruitment? we are not a recruitment agency more of executive recruiters/headhunters - we list your job roles for free and the only payment that you will make is if you take on the employee permanently whihc then we would ask for a % of the final annual salary fee (not very high though). I'm an experienced recruitment consultant from different industries so if you message me I'd be happy to pass on some free advice and guidance.

If you're interested you can learn more about our online recruitment solutions for small business, new startups and entrepreneurs at LinkSquare
