Who sells advertising on their website?

Was it an original intention of yours?
What are some tips that you found helpful when you first started selling advertisements on your site?

    Thanks!

Tip: the higher the PR and unique visitors, the higher the price of the link.

2nd Tip: sell links to companies/businesses in your niche (they're willing to pay more).

We Are Selling Advertising On Our Site

Spotabusiness.com was launched about a month and a half ago. We are averaging about 6,400 - 7,000 monthly views. This is due to all of the blogging we do, forums, videos, and everything else in between. We are now offering advertising on our site in the form of banners. We are selling them very cheap... about $25 to $50. If you are interested contact us at admin@spotabusiness.com or at 314-719-9843

I sell advertising on a few sites, $100K+ per month. While I agree that you can charge more depending on page rank and unique visitors, this is not always the most important thing.

The most important thing to a media buyer (someone who will be purchasing your ad space) is showing positive ROI and added value. If you want to be serious about selling advertising, you have to be serious about how you present it as well as trying to give as much value to each individual advertiser.

The two pieces of advice I would give in respect to selling advertising on your site are as follows:

    1. If you're not making money through affiliate ads in the spots on your site you want to sell advertising at, your site is probably not busy enough or mature enough yet to entertain a paid advertising model. If you're not generating revenue from those spots, advertisers probably won't either.

    2. If you want to be taken seriously by media buyers and people that have budgets to buy online advertising, you'll need to present yourself professionally. The easiest way to do this is to have a professional media kit made up in a .pdf that outlines everything about your site as well as everything an advertiser would want to know. Include traffic stats and what will be included in the advertising package. Also include what added value you can give the potential buyer.

PM me if you want to have a look at one of the media kits I use when leads come in about paid advertising. Hopefully this helps a bit.

ChosenList.com - Clean Content Classifieds sells advertising in a few different ways.

Its all about the relationships. Because of the lack of interpersonal contact that ecommerce creates many people think a site and its numbers are just going to sell itself. Getting in front of individuals and companies is vital to maximizing your advertising revenue. Its all about the belly to belly sale and establishing healthy, long lasting relationship.

    Great post Enke
