Who is the real target market

So quick question...If you are designing a product that is for kids, who is the actual target market? Would you need to find the demographics of the kids who are actually going to be using the product, or the parents who are the ones that will be purchasing the product? Or would you need to find the demographics of both?

Whichever medium you decide to use for marketing, be sure to consider the age group of the kids.

For example, if its toddlers, pre-schoolers, etc you probably have more success directing your marketing efforts (and money) towards the parents as you say.

Wouldn't hurt to research the demographics of both in any case and decide which, or if both, are the target market and how you can direct your marketing

Probably both, toys are tough, lots of money going into getting a product out there. In most cases you need to sell a lot of toys to an allready saturated market. If it were me and I had a great idea I would look to pattent it and sell it to one of the big boys. Steve

Its not exactly a toy. Just wondering if I would need to know more about the parents spending habits or the overall habits of the kid or both. I will probably end up doing both and see how that can make its way into the marketing mix.

It would be for the kids. Obviously, the parents would be there-ultimately though, the kid needs to want the product. Without the kid's desire, the parent will never buy it.
