Looking back over the years at successes and failures there is one thing that seems to have become clear to me. Money has never been the main motivator, as a creative person money has only been the validator of my thoughts and ideas. My greatest successes were always when passions were running highest and knowledge was running lowest, failures usually came when the passion died, even though I may have learned a particular business very well over a period of time. Over the last 10 years I have dedicated myself to my passions in a more artistic sense instead of a business sense. The rewards have been great but not in a monetary fashion. This takes me to a book I read several years ago, " Do what you love the money will follow" I have finaly found something I love, my passion has only continued to grow, I have attained some success here and have become a known author and respected expert in my particular field.Over the last few years it has become apparent that my new passion has all the ingredients of a new industry with broad appeal and the ability to create lifetime customers. It appeals to historians, physisists, artists, sportsman, nature types, educational, hobbyists and crafty types. Without going into too much detail the internet has for the first time in modern history made this possible. I am talking about a type of amusement park unlike any out there today. Start up costs would be relatively low as there are no rides and very little structure involved. The ratio of employee to customer would be relatively high at about 50 to 1. Other overhead costs would be low. A test market could be performed on about 10 acres of vacant land and it could be run as a fair over a summer or spring period for about 12 weeks to get a better feel for the numbers. It has the appeal at such a core almost primal level in humans I can't see it not taking off. The customers would gradually become your best attraction and would help to off set the high ratio of employee to customer ratio initaly needed, All the employees would need to possess certain types of skills not commonly found but because of the internet are now readily available. All the employees would be doing something they love to do! That in itself is a recipe for success. I am looking for a small core group willing to discuss this further in a more private setting. Have to run now but looking forward to starting this. Steve
