I'm skimmin thru his bio at Simon Cowell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, but i don't see it in there. Do you have a link to a source saying that he conceived the original idea? Because all the sources I read says that Fuller is the creator, even the credits on the AI always says created by Simon Fuller.
See Fuller's profile at Simon Fuller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm just kind of curious why some people here are arguing that the original poster's inquiry about the "top celebrity entrepreneurs" referred specifically to celebrities who then became entrepreneurs and why other people are arguing that it referred specifically to entrepreneurs who then became celebrities? Why are you making your assumption when the original poster clearly did not refer to one or the other? Why does it even matter?

Is Simon Cowell the Top Celebity Entrepreneur?
So far the top vote getters are Simon Cowell, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Richard Branson.
Here is how Wikipedia introduces our top four:
Simon Phillip Cowell (born 7 October 1959) is an Emmy-nominated English artist and repertoire (”A&R”) executive for Sony BMG in the United Kingdom and a television producer, more commonly known as a judge on television programmes such as Pop Idol, The X Factor, American Idol and Britain’s Got Talent. He is also the owner of the television production and music publishing house Syco.
William Henry Gates III (born 28 October 1955) is an American entrepreneur, software executive, philanthropist and chairman of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen. During his career at Microsoft he has held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and he remains the largest individual shareholder with more than 9 percent of the common stock.
Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York, New York, United States) is an American business executive, entrepreneur, television and radio personality and author. He is the CEO of Trump Organization, an American-based real estate developer, and the founder of Trump Entertainment, which operates several casinos. He received a great deal of publicity following the success of his reality television show, The Apprentice (in which he serves as both executive producer and host for the show). He is the son of Fred Trump who was a wealthy real estate developer based in New York City.
Richard Branson (born 18 July 1950) is an English entrepreneur, best known for his Virgin brand of over 360 companies. Branson’s first successful business venture was at age 15, when he published a magazine called Student. He then set up a record mail-order business in 1970. In 1972, he opened a chain of record stores, Virgin Records, later known as Virgin Megastores and rebranded as zavvi in late 2007. With his flamboyant and competitive style, Branson’s Virgin brand grew rapidly during the 1980s - as he set up Virgin Atlantic Airways and expanded the Virgin Records music label.Honorable mention so far in the poll goes to:
* Warren Buffet
* Ted Turner
* Mary Kate and Ashley
* Morgan Freeman
* Robert Redford
* Prince
* Steve Jobs
* Oprah Winfrey
* Michael Dell
* Jay-Z
* Sean Combs
* Simon Fuller
* 50 cent
* Robert Kiyosaki
* Robert Allen
* Gene Simmons
Who do you think deserves to win the top spot as the best celebrity entrepreneur?

While I am a huge fan of the Gates' and Buffets' and admire their true entrepreneurial sprit, knowledge and savvy, I thought the post was addressing more those who used their fame and blessings of wealth from other non-business means and applied it to further learn and grow outside of that niche.
Jay Z (Sean Carter) has seen the opportunity in business to diversify and gain wealth and success after using his talent as an entertainer to step off from. He is worth over 500million and is doing exactly the opposite of what most people in that profession get in the bad habit of doing, spending and thinking it is a perpetual faucet of funds. (MC Hammer, et al. haha)

Here is my ranking based on various factors. make note that Ted Turner didn't start his business from scratch, he started when he bought his father's AM radio station. Some entrepreneurs on this list such as Oprah, they started out being managed by someone else, and then they made money and then started their businesses. So, I don't know how they can be classified as entrepreneurs. And yes, i inserted Bill Gates because he deserved to be in that list.
1. Warren Buffet
2. Steve Jobs
3. Michael Dell
3. Bill Gates
4. Simon Fuller
5. Robert Kiyosaki
6. Robert Redford
7. Morgan Freeman
8. Ted Turner
9. Mary Kate and Ashley
10. Prince
11. Oprah Winfrey
12. Jay-Z
13. Sean Combs
14. 50 cent
15. Robert Allen
16. Gene Simmons
