    Which sounds better, business name?

I am the business manager of a 20 acre Orchard in Nevada.

We're currently called "Oasis Valley Orchard"

The property owner / "boss" / financial backer thought we should change the name to "Moapa Valley Orchard", since we are in Moapa Valley.

I returned his request with a request of my own, "Nevada Fruit Company", as its very straight to the point. He claims there are too many negative thoughts regarding Nevada.

He countered with, "Moapa Valley Pomegranates and Produce" as our business name, and our website link would be moapavalleypomegranatesandproduce.com

Really, really, long and impossible to remember.

I am having difficulty discussing with him the importance of a straight forward and easy to remember name, however it all has to be done his way.

So, what are your thoughts on these names?

The only true advantage of making it, "Moapa Valley Pomegranates and Produce" would be for SEO, seeing as our products are clearly listed in our URL. But I still feel as if Nevada Fruit Company sounds more legitimate, more professional, and allows people to know that we are located in Nevada, and we're ready and willing to do business. Its easy to remember.

Not everyone can spell Pomegranate either, which makes me really not want to put it in our URL.

    Thoughts?

    1. "Moapa Valley Pomegranates and Produce" is entirely too long!
    2. Nevada Fruit Company is better, but not quite there yet (sounds a bit too common)
    3. I definitely think a shorter name should be used, so I guess you two will have to comprimise.

I assume you're selling retail to the public. If you're selling wholesale the name is not so important. Does the name "Moapa Valley" have some cache for your clients? It doesn't do anything for me in Illinois. When I think Nevada, I don't think fruit. moapavalleypomegranatesandproduce.com is ridiculously long.

How about more generic names like:
    PomAndProduce.com
    MVPomAndProduce.com
    NVPoms.com
    MoapaPoms.com
    FreshPoms.com
    ValleyPoms.com

All of these URLs are still available.

I agree that Moapa Valley Pomegranates and Produce is too long.

Moapa means "Clear water", which is why when we first started the business I decided upon, "Oasis Valley Orchard". I didn't want to have Moapa in our name, because "What the hell is a Moapa?" would come to mind from our out of state customers.

Which is a name I do still like, to a certain degree. Although we also do produce which is non-orchard like.

Only locals and people in the state of Nevada would know what Moapa Valley is. Not national.

We sell to local area Whole Food stores, but I am developing an online marketplace so we can ship direct to our customers.

For some reason, he is dead set on having Moapa Valley in the name. Its rather bothersome, really.

But I may see if he will settle for "Moapa Valley Fruit and Produce" which is still very long. Pomegranates aren't our only fruit crop (just the main crop).

It has to be a name that appeals to the type of shopper who goes to Organic stores such as Whole Foods, they want to feel like they're supporting a small family ran farm, which having "Moapa Valley" in the name would help, because our local customers know where that is. But outside of the Vegas area, no one knows.

He told me to purchase the domain name today for moapavalleypomegranatesandproduce, which looks just like a big jumbled mess of text. I haven't yet, because even though he is the property owner and financial backer, how this business does directly affects me and I don't want to jeopardize losing sales because people misspell Moapa or Pomegranates in the URL.

    Maybe valleyfruitandproduce.com would be better?

    Your thoughts?

Yeah, the amount of web addresses is not an issue.

I have been leaning on the side of "FreshPoms.com" or "PomsToYou.com", both seem to be very brandable and easily rememerable names.

I'm beginning to think we should only sell Pomegranates online. We have 36 trees right now that produce about 12,000 fruit on a good year. We're planting 700 new trees in the Spring, but we planted 200 more this Fall.

So as you can see, we really need to develop a market and an outlet for this fruit in particular. We have figs, apricots, plums, etc. All of which is at a small volume that can be sold outside of our property via our little fruit stand and to local stores.

In three or four years, we will have over 400,000 Pomegranates to get rid of. Thats a total of (if sold at the standard of $3 a fruit) $1,200,000 +/- worth of product. Not saying we will have the customer base to meet that potential, however, you can see how important choosing the right name would be.

Don't do it!! its unreadable, and incredibly hard to spell!

PomsToYou.com is pretty cool, especially if you sort out your direct shipping as mnetioned in your other thread!

I like the idea of something short and brandable - i.e. FreshPoms.com - easy to remember and easy to type in.

What's wrong with Oasis Valley Orchard?? I like that name much better than any of the other choices. And honestly, Nevada Fruit Company sounds horrible.

Why not just Nevada Fruits, or Oasis Valley ?
Keep it simple or Moapa Pomegranates...

    We settled on PomsToYou.com

It could be worked into a logo with ease, I think, and it clearly states that we sell Pomegranates (well, maybe Pomeranian dogs)... to you, the customer.

Just bought the domain and the website should be in work.

Oasis Valley Orchard will remain what it is. PomsToYou is the brand, with the product coming from Oasis Valley Orchard. There will be a link to the orchard website from the PomsToYou website.

    CGM,

That was a good call. The website can be a cornerstone for marketing the products of the orchard.

    Thanks everyone.

Keep a watch on PomsToYou.com -- Fresh, Organic Pomegranates shipped to your door!

Right now its just a "Coming Soon" page, but it will be soon developing into (hopefully) our main source for our Pomegranate sales.

nice choice! the only thing I find funny, is I'm not sure if you say it in the US but in Australia a POM is a person from England, so when I read POMStoyou.com I think 'why would I want to buy an Englishman?' :P
