Where's the best place to start a business and why?

What city do you think is best for entrepreneurship and why?

Check out this recent YoungEntrepreneur.com article about how Bend, Ore., offers serious benefits to small businesses and entrepreneurs, including growth rate, investment, government perks and lifestyle balance.

No easy answer to that question, too many variables, but with recession, very few areas offer any small business incentives like there once was in good times. The only perks go to the big companies, not start ups. Best place to start any business these days is online. My first business was a traditional brick and mortar, and although it was successful, I got no help from gov. or any incentives or perks, nothing. I BUILT MY BUSINESS. lol I took it online and never looked back. Would never start another conventional business again, just too many headaches.

I think it strongly depends on what area you're starting a business in. If you're going to have a high-tech startup its probably best to be in Silicon Valley because that's where the investors and other entrepreneurs are.

Is your question limited to cities within the US?

When we decide for starting a business, the question of "where" can be just as important as "what," "why," and "how."Some states offer better business climates for entrepreneurs while others offers best business variables like personal income tax rate, corporate income tax rate, property tax rate, electricity cost, and minimum wage. And in today's economy, entrepreneurs need all the help they can get when launching a new business. So, it will be tough to reply to the answer.

It depends on what kind of business you are looking to establish. You need to do a thorough market research and find out the age group you want to target and the area where you want to set up your business.

Well, it entirely depends on the city where you start up your business. If the city is flourishing and has potential customers, you business is sure to do well there. If the city is such that it does not have too much competition against your business, it will emerge successful there.

Depending on what type of business you're planning to put up. But if you're a startup company and doesn't have the budget, you can start it through online.

It depends on what type of business you are interesting in.

Before entering into a business in any particular city, first do a little research about the culture, choice of the people of the city, this way you get a scenario about the requirements of the people of the city.

Suppose if you want to sell BMW cars then it is better to open showroom in a metropolitan city rather than a small town. If you want to sell small and cheap consumer products then it is better to do this in small cities and town.

So do a little research and try to understand the demography, culture, choice, requirement and lifestyle of the people of that particular city before starting any business.

    Hi,
Thanks for posting your question. Well according to me i consider the largest city of US, New York City to be the best city for young entrepreneurs. The city is actually known for its corporate feel with business symbols like Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange. Therefore, for any new start up I think this city will work wonders.

I would recommend to follow these steps:

1 Select the industry you're interested in working in.
2 Research the kinds of businesses and various business models within that industry.
3 Perform market research to see where there is an unmet need -- geographically, pricewise, complementary products and services, etc.
    4 Analyze the competition.
5 Develop a preliminary business plan for a business to meet that need.
6 Do some more market research to assess the realistic market potential for your business. Will people buy it?
7 Revise the business plan and determine your funding requirements.
8 If needed, seek out lenders or investors.
    9Start the business.

    Hope it helps you.
