    When setting up a shop...

How do I get bar codes sorted? How do they work in the UK? Who provides them? How do I get a computer system set up to deal with them?

A barcode is normally just a graphic representation of an item or product code. You also get fancy 3D barcodes which stores some other data but the principle is the same. To read barcodes you'll need a barcode scanner, which plugs into you ps/2 port normally. When you install the scanner, the calibration software or the package your going to use it with normally installs a set of barcode fonts. To create a barcode you type the data you want barcoded in a wordprocessor or a graphics app and change the font to barcode. Normally your POS system handles that part. The biggiest problem you might experience would be to calibrate and programme the barcode scanners.

Hope this helps you to the right path
