my view on this is that it depends on what business you are doing. some business you will be able to keep your day job while starting the business but some are just impossible. for me personally i would say that if you are starting a business, dumping that secure salary would made you work harder for the income which will give better chances of sucess rather than having the mindset of " oh well , i have a job to fall back to . i don't need to work so hard"

    just my 2 cent

Yeah it's great to go for the gusto but....

what happens when you're venture isn't producing the way it's supposed to so you can meet your upcoming financial obligations?

I think a good compromise is to have a 30, 60, 90 day plan before you pull the plug on steady income and being financially responsible.

In my plan on the 90th day, I have savings to live off of and have confirmed that my company is generating not just income but income I CAN LIVE OFF OF!!

It's ok to be agressive. Without action you won't get anywhere, however be smart about it.

    That's my 2 cents.

It really depends on the person and their situation.

I jumped out of my job as soon as I had even a thought of starting a business. I freed myself up and spent ages struggling through not earning an income before I could build my business enough to earn some coin. Even now though, I still earn less than I did 3 years ago when I had a steady job.... Hopefully soon that will change though!

Most people - A lot of people will start a business that compliments their current employment, if you can leverage your current job to give you a head start in business, that's a great advantage. Otherwise, if you're still going to be in the same industry, try sorting out a few deals to ensure when you get the ball rolling you can at least cover your overheads within a short time frame.

I do this all the time, but I think its important to know that you can make a living off your idea before you give up the steady paycheck and health insurance. I am not there yet, but one day!

After having saved a substantial amount, then its time to start and go full time with your business plans. Severing the ties with your employer is part of the process to progress. Just make it nicely, they will understand.

I don't think that's normal on a regular basis but maybe she's just doing it for the first month or so with the new baby.

But technically a SAHM usually stays home WITH the kids..so she'll need a new title if she sends both of them off while she's at home...

Save enough money to to cover your living expenses for about 3-4 months. Try to pay off all your liabilities (car, education, house loans etc.). After that you should be able to quit your job.

I thinkg only when you can make some great CASH from running your won business.

Success takes time, and you learn, earn and grow from it! Hard work will play off; after you have done you hard work; that is keep learning and growing; that is the hatd work - but SUCCESs will be pay off.

when you absolutely love your work and what you do, that might be the best time to ram it up and go full force (but don't forget to take time out for you as well)
