What do you think the next hot product will be? What's the next Acai Berry or ShamWow?

in the next couple of years, i would have to say a netbook size touchscreen tablet.

what should it be? touch screen technology that doesn't suck. even the best out there is still iffy.

it sounds like you are asking about smaller products though, in that vein i will have to say something that steams and cleans baseboards in your house easily. kind of like the new steam mops for the kitchen but designed to roll along the base boards and clean them as you walk. i have out of town guests coming in this weekend and cleaning the base boards is a pain the butt. especially if you have alot of sq ft.

What was the "last big thing"? What measurement do we use when we say the "next big thing" Is it by volume? Is it by sales? Or is it the mere fact of saying WOW! Life cycles of the "next big thing" could flash right before our eyes and we might not know it even know it. However, I believe the next big thing will be something old made new again...

I think one of the next big things that'll happen is that once the large social networking sites reach their peaks (in terms of new user's or activity), they will slowly begin to disintegrate as users begin to break away to more specialized community networks, as web 2.0 technologies become increasingly enriched, whereby users will leave or be more absent on larger generic social sites (i.e. facebook.com) to join a multiplicity of specific network communities relevant to their life situation, or personal preferences (i.e. youngentrepreneur. com). This will become big when a greater number and variety of specialized online communities are established whereby to meet the great diversity and range of users' specific interests and needs.
Why would this likely be so? Because there are certain limitations as to how much an umbrella-type social networking site can do for users' specific interests when it primarily aims to only cater in a general and non-specialized way, that is why this website (youngentrepreneur. com) is able to survive against giants as facebook and myspace, as they fail to adequately meet such niches, or any niche as adequately.

So instead of having one single profile on facebook for example, users will branch out to a number of niche communities that align with their interests (whilst still keeping their facebook account to stay in contact with friends and others), and this will be a slow process as there aren't exactly a comprehensive number of niche online communities to meet all interests, however, giants such as facebook and myspace will diminish in their already established dominance as the rise of user specialized network sites grow.

I think a big way to capitalize upon this is by creating a standard web utility/platform that allows user's to interact with all their different networks through one single interface. Some may imagine that the social networking giants themselves will become this utility as they try to compete with niche networks and attempt to 'swallow' them up. However, I'm confident that this will not likely be the case, as users will not abandon the usefulness of such specialized network sites as these.

    This may well happen

Just wondering Chabz, what do you do?

Like most of us here I'm guessing you're running your own business of some kind or plan to.
