I firmly believe in bootstrapping (building your biz from the ground up). Once you are able to have some sort of cash flow, it is much easier to try to raise capital.

In short, every dollar you make should go back into the business!

    Affirmative!
Certain things are relevant which should be considered:
    Who would give you business?
    Where are these people?
What product would you deal in?
    What is their paying capacity?

The answers to above mentioned questions can help to choose amongst the options available to raise money and finance

    Talking

If your just an ambitious hustler like me and not familiar with all that stock talk just quite yet family and friends are going to help out a lot. For those juvenile delinquents out there it may be hard to convince them. Im still young and fortunate to have a good full time job right now so Im taping into my 401k. For those who didn't know you can take out a loan from it and pay yourself back with interest.

You must have some of your own money in your business.

Start small and get some cash flow and a client base.

    Show a consistent cash flow.

Demonstrate to your investors your business is growing.

Show your investors they have a reasonable chance getting a return on their investment.

Be professional. Return calls, write thank you notes, make sure you have customer satisfaction (AKA quality)

    Massive Success to you

Don't forget to engage your local churches, you might be able to get them to enlist their congregation to accept offerings in the name of your project or more specifically to the family of choice but you will need to make a plea to them.
Bake sales are always good to make money with too.

im off the same opinion as many others, start with your own capital and once you show earning potential, your friends and family will be willing to invest in you. In my case my parents and grandparents said they would invest in my website if i was earning a certain amount per month which was a really good goal to get it started

There are so many channels of raising capital to start a business
but its all boils to the question of the type, nature, size and purpose of business.the means use in raising capital should be legitimate to avoid
future problems.one may raise capital from
    his own savings
    friends
    banks
    partner
    family
    lottery
    and others cooperate organizations
i have personally started a business with my own savings which happens to be inadequate and therefore there is the need for me to look for other avenue to raise money to bring my business into existence .
This shows that only one of the above listed means may not always be enough to establish and sustain a business .when it happens that way one needs to look at the other sources of generating capital....
