If you have a truck, do junk removal. To get customers post on craigslist.

Find a wholesale source with unique products and sell them at the flea market for the weekend. Some people make a couple hundred dollars in just two days! Make sure you get your booth early so you have busier position.

The junk removal idea is very popular and also you can make extra money by turning in metal people are just throwing out.

    So its win-win both ways.

BTW: Gaulkin I really like your site.

Thanks, and your right we make alot off scrap metal. We mostly run into aluminum windows people are getting rid of when they get new ones.

While Junk Removal is an option, it's truly competitive and if you just do it part time it will be hard for you to get ahead as there is always a guy in a pick that will try and under cut you; the same could be said for lawn care, window washing, etc. If it's part time, and you aren't in it to make a substantial amount of money but to build a small biz slowly, then pick something you are good at and look at it as a long term investment that will pay off with years of experience so that when whatever is preventing you from going full time is over, you will be able to slide into your previously part time venture.

The only low startup idea I can think of off the top of my head is a blog.
$75 for a nice WP theme
    $12 for domain
    $60 a year for hosting
$500 for a php programmer (Semi regular ongoing costs) to make your theme custom (unless you can do it)
$200 for a good logo from 99 designs
    $400 + for a good camera
$50 for 500 business cards from vistaprint
$ X dollars (ongoing costs) for gas getting to and from places to write about and interviews
$50 to $100 (Ongoing costs) for professional editing services. No one wants to read a blog with a bunch of spelling and grammatical errors.

Total --> About 1,300.00 (low balled)

My new start-up that had a low overhead was making chain mail. I've now moved into make jewelery with. To give you an idea if I do a jewelery piece out of sterling silver my cost is around 50-125 depending on the size of the piece, the time and hours can be as quick as one day (speed weaving) or as long as a week. My re-sale after time, quality, materials, works out to be 200-2000 (larger pieces go up quite a bit due to the attention to detail necessary) per week I'm turning over roughly 2,000, per month net profit of 5,000 ish

If you look at the statistics of people who make money compared to the people who don't make money, you could make the conclusion that yes, less people make money in MLM than those that do make money. But why people act like this is any different than anything else is unknown to me. Because the same could be said about anything people attempt.

Most people who get into trading stocks, fail at making any money. Most people who get into real estate sales, fail to sell their first house. Most people who want to sing at the opera, fail. Most people who want to play professional sports, fail. Most people who start a business, fail. Most people who want to get into shape, fail. So while it's true that most people fail at MLM, it's ALSO true that most people fail at everything.

The wise and logical thing to do is to not look at the percentage of people who fail, but to look at what they did TO FAIL vs what people did TO SUCCEED!

For those who have never been in MLM or network marketing, please allow me to explain how misleading the statement, "Most people don't get anywhere with MLM" is. To get started in an MLM business, it typically costs around $30 to become a distributor in an MLM company. Then you will pick a package of products so that you know what you're selling. So all told, you will be spending around $500 bucks to get started. So according to the people who claim that most people fail, if at any time in the future the person stops doing the business, then that person failed. And when it doesn't cost that much to get started, it's easy for people to give up. They don't have much money into it.

But the reality is, most people don't FAIL at MLM (network marketing), they QUIT! Because of it's low cost to get started, it is easy to just stop doing the business. And unfortunately for them, they will never succeed.

So the next time someone says to you that most people don't get anywhere with MLM or most people fail, I want you to think about all the people who said that they wanted to lose weight as their New Year's resolution. What happens to MOST people by February 1st? They've given up. Does that mean "working out and eating right" doesn't work? Does that mean fitness clubs "don't work?" Of course not.

People quit and that is why they fail.

Use your head and listen to people who are having success. Not people who have failed at something or have never done it.

Valid argument . However mlm is geared more twords recruitment of new members rather than the sale of a product or service. Unless you feel comfortable pitching to family and friends your running on fumes from the start.
