What would the cost be of creating something like this

How much do you think it would cost to start something like Online Rebates from Ebates.com - Cash Back - Online Coupons Or what about Coupons, Deals, and Cash Back Shopping - FatWallet.com

The biggest cost would be the web site design and development. Depending on how complicated you want your site to be, you can try using one of CMS (Content Management System) available for free like joomla.

If you don't want to build it yourself, you can look into hiring some freelance web developers to build it for you from places like rentacoder.com.

But I would advise you research the market you want to enter first. There are many sites like Fatwallet. Slickdeals.net comes to mind immediately. You would need a unique hook to get people to use your site.

There is lots of these sites out there. You have to think to yourself, why would yours be better than theirs?

The cost would be small after the website is completed.

I would also budget funds for marketing and PR. Aside from just building the site, which is probably the easiest thing, it will be getting people to use it as luluwat.com mentioned. Since I'm a developer, I can give a rough estimate on what just the development took. The forum will cost probably $500-1000 with the bulk of it going to a web designer. The blog will be around $2000 for design and implementation and support. And that's probably just a low end. I suggest going to rentacoder.com or guru.com and get a quote. Tell them you want something EXACTLY like YE and see what they quote you.

Hi, this is Nicole from Rent a Coder.

Thanks to everyone for recommending our service. I want to make a few comments about other services like Guru (mentioned in addition to ours) that could influence the success of such an extensive project.

First, using Guru's 'time-clock,' workers at Guru can punch-in and out any time they want whether they're working or not. In fact, Guru's time-clock software doesn't even record worker desktops or webcams, so if you were to use their model, you wouldn't even know whether your work was being performed at all.

Second, At Guru, a worker can stall just the ***beginning*** of arbitration for weeks (20 business days in fact) and ultimately, unnecessarily delay a due refund.

Then Guru attaches a hefty subscription fee on to its workers who want to make more than 10 bids at a time. That not only limits qualified prospects, it increases the cost of your projects since workers may pass this fee onto you.

Rentacoder on the other hand, allows you to verify the time worked on a project with an 'in and out' real-time card application. This application records the worker's desktop and webcam so that you can witness your project's development.

We also offer full arbitration on all projects free of charge and we prevent abusive buyers from stalling an arbitration's start. In fact, 45% of our arbitrations are completed under a day and 75% of them are completed under a week.

And we do not place a bid limit on any of our workers for any reason.

I invite you and your visitors to compare the 7 major services through our site to learn more.

If you have any questions, please let me know. You can also call in to talk to a facilitator 7 days a week.

    Nicole

He's not saying to install wordpress into your server kind of "setup" - he's saying it will cost that much to design, code it the WAY you want it to function.

It costs more to get a custom-made CMS done. I know someone who expects more than 10k in order to design and code a CMS from scratch.
