what type of business is this?

    What would you call this?

I am interested in starting one of these.

    here are example sites.

the main idea is to allow people to play online for cash prizes.

You play a game such as halo 3...and you pay say $10 entree fee. then the winner of the 2 gets like 80% or however it works...i have not done research yet because i do not know what to search for.

here are site examples. if you can tell me the type of business and were to find information...that would be great!

    Thanks

i cant link to pages, so here. just google these. or put a .(com) after each one

These are gaming tournaments. There's quite a few tournaments out there but a site dedicated to setting up such things, not sure. There is a business called iBeatYou that features competition but not for winning cash prizes, only bragging rights. However gaming tournaments happen a lot all over the place.

It would be called gambling ;P. Lol, but seriously, sounds somewhat unique, the process for you to do something like that is to research gambling website set-ups, read up on proper gambling site regulations, have the proper website infrastructure designed and market it in every you can.

It's very similar but I wouldn't call it gambling. The concept behind the idea isn't new. Gaming tournaments have been going on for years. The concept of creating a site for it however might be unique although I can't say that with absolute certainty. It's not in the same category as gambling. There are lots of famous gaming tournaments that pay cash prizes to top gamers.

The pitfall of building a site around this, as far as I can tell, is it's possible for gamers to cheat so long as they are not competing locally which may make the business difficult to thrive on legal merits.
