What to do when your laid off??

What options does one have after being laid off of a 100k job in the casino industry which is suffering from the bad economy. 25+ years of experience with a 4 yr. degree in hotel administration, not to mention they laid off the employee of the year. I am stuck and would really like to help this individual out. Maybe working for the gaming commission, opening up a small franchise like a capriotties sandwich shop, consulting.

Already applied at other casinos but it may take up to a year to get a job with the way our economy is going. To be quiet honest I would love to have him out of the casino industry in general. Thanks in advance I am open to ANY thing.

Las Vegas has really been hammered by the downturn. The north state is having severe problems too. Even worse, people from other parts of the country tend to head to Nevada when times are tough thinking that it's a snap to get a job in the Silver State. They usually end up being a burden. Even the gold mines in Elko and Winnemucca are suffering. I don't know what to say. I'd tell you to take the money you've got and move, but I don't know where you'd go. A degree in hotel management isn't very flexible. So, no suggestions here, just sympathy.

If I was making 100k a year and I got laid off. I would be a millionaire in just under 2 years.

Take any job you can get so that you can pay your bills... then start thinking about the next step. Don't let yourself get depressed... keep moving and things will bounce back. This is a super rough time to get laid off. I already know 5 people who have been laid off this year (family & friends).... thats more then I've ever known.

I give them all the same advice... take any job you can get so that you don't fall behind. Then work on your resume and start sending it out to 100+ companies a week. Keep your head up and it'll work out...
