What Motivates You?
What makes you do what you do; getting up early, staying up late, working long hours, thinking, creating, and getting frustrated when it is not working out as you've expected?
Whether you own a business or plan to start one, what actually motivates you to doing it?
Is it Money, Power or what is it?
How far are you willing to go or do in order to get what you want?
For me it's to be remembered that I was once on here; to leave my mark, success, money; for me, my family and community, and power just to feel like I am somebody, not just an average Joe, but extra ordinary.

Success and the achievement motivates me. Definately keen on the money side of things but that comes with the rest.
I would love to one day have created a company which is at the top of it's market and well respected by the community, thats what motivates me to learn as much as I can and try a lot of things while im young.

Exactly. Freedom is everything to me. Freedom from going from paycheck to paycheck. Freedom of doing the type of work I want. Freedom of controlling how many vacation days I can take and when I can take them. Freedom of buying things I want for myself and for other people, not having to say "I can't afford that." And most of all, the freedom to live how and where I want to.

It sounds lame, but my motivation is the future. I have firm goals set, and I will do (almost) anything to achieve them and live the life I want to live.

Freedom is numero uno. It is primary. I can't think of anything else more important in my working life. The style of work, the type of work, everything. I am now extremely driven in this goal, and I have decided that I can not and will not live my life any differently.
The idea of working until I am 65 simply to get my super payout is ridiculous to me, given the average male life expectancy.
Freedom!

Great question
To be honest, I try to achieve stuff because most people I know are high achievers. I basically get pushed into trying hard because of peer pressure.
I've thought hard about all these other things like money, freedom, self actualization and thse things have less impact on me than a need for affiliation. I mean...if I had musical talent, I'd join a rock bad..but if I only have a talent for finance, I've only got the option to join the finance community
Also, having read some of these responses here, I'd encourage you guys to not isolate your self from the world around you in this frenzy of self directed focus. I know young blokes who've come up over the last 4 years from nothing to million dollar incomes, and it's very difficult to manage success if the mind set is like "It's about ME", "I'M a superstar", "I'm worried about MY goals" and so so ands so on.
I've seen things work better when founders focus more on community achievement rather than individual achievement...like in the context of a family business, or management buy outs

I have 5 things I moralize... mines are (in no specific orders):
1. Money & Respect (Power would be nice, but not necessary)
2. Friends & Family
3. God (As it goes, all things are possible through him)
4. Success & Leaving My Mark
5. My Fiance - My number one inspiration, motivation AND support is my fiance, surely I said above they are in no specific order but she is my number 1 supporter, without her I wouldn't be where I am... a high school graduate and a MUCH MORE INFLUENTIAL businessman to the younger kids around here
Freedom is nice yes, but I am just listing my inspiration and motivations right now... freedom would fall as a "already achieved" object for me in a way.

Good points, and I agree. I was replying specifically to the question "What Motivates You?", and from that I focussed entirely on what I found important for myself.
It is perhaps quite obvious that one would want 'freedom' but does one really have that freedom until one has financial freedom -and- given up their responsibilities in their business? I have always been a believer in finishing that which you have started.
My ideals are to create a place where people can be creative, and let their imaginations guide their vision. I view myself as the helmsman who guides this vision to fruition, through those wild business waves. There's already plenty of dev houses that produce titles in a pressure cooker environment.
The other would be quality. I do not want to be a producer of low-tier or middle-tier quality titles. I has to be A+ within the episodic and casual sphere.
I feel that if I stick to these ideals, I will be making a valuable contribution to the local dev community, and helping to show what Australia is capable of in the creative sphere.

Yeah there are too many shonky traders out there.
Ideals are extremely important, having the right ones that is.

What the 'right' ones are, however, is a matter of the subjective.

University fees (shudder), being independent from my parents, moving out A.S.A.P, not having to rely on people. What I really want is to be able to afford a private helicopter!
