    Money, Money, Money.....

I like to have it for all the things it can do. I like to provide for my family and to leave something behind for my kids.

Becoming a market leader, like Google in a industry like imageshack has free images, also being better than all the rest I'm scripting a internet service that I hope will knock Yahoo off Alexa #1 I've written 10,000+ lines of code already and may need to build a unique server to meet its demands.

Is it Money, Power or what is it?

How far are you willing to go or do in order to get what you want?

For me it's to be remembered that I was once on here; to leave my mark, success, money; for me, my family and community, and power just to feel like I am somebody, not just an average Joe, but extra ordinary.
I was just listening the other day to a Tony Robbins tape...

He was talking about how the greatest human motivation is to AVOID PAIN...

So when thinking about what motivates you...
When you are motivated by money....You aren't just motivated by the money but rather motivated by the pain of NOT HAVING MONEY...Because when you don't have money you are, sad, depressed, in pain....

When you are motivated to have more friends....you aren't just motivated by getting a lot of friends....but rather motivated by the pain of NOT having friends, so therefore you go out and take action on activity to get you friends.

I am personally motivated by living a life full of time freedom because I don't want to have to deal with the pain of having to work a 9-5 the rest of my life.

    What do you all think?

I agree with this. I started working at a major corporation when I was 19 years old. They were arguably the worst three years of my career. The pay was "OK", but the stress of having my career in another person's hands at times was just too much to handle.

I saved up a couple of thousand dollars, left my job at the corporation, and started my own business. Now I own multiple and couldn't be happier.

Freedom is a wonderful thing, no doubt.

Totally agree. While we may think of ourselves as complex beings, we are very simple. Eat, sleep, reproduce.... the fundamentals...

You shouldn't focus on fear of mediocrity as that places your focus
on mediocrity... Why not focus on what you want and not what you
    don't want?

I didn't notice this thread until now... For myself, I have a high need for achievement. This means differentiating myself, making things better, doing things skillfully that aren't left to chance, doing work of medium difficulty, and having a feeling of accomplishment. In McClelland's Theory of Needs, the other two factors are need for power and need for affiliation.

McClellands theory is one of the more supported motivation theories today, but there are tons of others that each have their own backing. If anyone is really interested in motivation theory, I suggest learning about the following main motivation theories: Theory X/Theory Y, Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory, Hierarchy of Needs theory, Cognitive Evaluation Theory, Goal-Setting theory, Self-Efficacy theory, reinforcement theory, equity theory, and expectancy theory.

People's perception of what motivates them or others is often far different than what actually serves as motivators.
