What ithe best marketing tactic for launching a website?

I am wondering what is the best way you have launched your website? Was it a product, service or business opportunity? Did you try to capture info and build a mailing list then market to the list?

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Well there is no one single way but you need to build up a social media campaign, blog marketing and any other method which gets the word out or acts as a viral marketing tool. Putting up videos on youtube can work out well.

Thank you all for the great information. I have started to do most of what you all have said. I will have to join Stumbleupon and Reddit as I had not heard of those yet. I have an FB account put not a fan page, so I will get that going. I am just starting with the videos, is Youtube the only place you reccommend? I am capturing information and building a list. I am very happy to have found this website and again thank you all for your responses.

My 1st port of call is always Digg and then Twitter then start promoting your site in the normal fashion.

Thank You Mega B, I have a Twitter account but don't quite understand how to grow my followers. I have 373 so far. Any Ideas on that one? I have not heard of Digg. What is it all about? I am heading over there now to check it out.

Both the social networking sites (including sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) and the social bookmarking sites (Digg, Propeller, Delicious, Reddit, etc.) are necessary options; in addition to it there are others that might be needed: article submission, press release submissions etc.

I think social media would be a great place to start, low cost but the potential to reach so many people, as someone said abovedefinately get on linked in aswel, that will raise awareness and give you the chance to meet professionals ..etc
