What Is Your Vision Of Your Future?
There is an old saying that goes "Change is inevitable ... except from a vending machine". While there is some humor in that, there is also some truth to it. Change is good, change is beneficial, as long as you can accept the fact that change was required because the way things stood prior to the change were not yet at an ideal level.
If you are at a point where life cannot get any better in any way whatsoever and no changes are required at all, I salute you because 99.9% of people on this planet would not agree with you.
I recently saw an episode on "Oprah" and have since seen the video in several emails from friends, which was quite moving. What would you do if you were told you only had 6 months to live? That was the situation faced by 47 year old Randy Rausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie-Mellon University, and the video is his last lecture at the university where he shares his perspectives and what he has learned in 47 years. I would encourage you to watch it if you have not seen it yet. It's posted in many places, but one link is:
Professor Randy Pausch's Last Lecture
November is the traditional month where we celebrate Thanksgiving in the US. I would encourage you to consider where you are today and to be thankful for that. We both know that things could be worse. True, they could also be better, but they could also be much worse. You could be in the position of Professor Rausch with about 6 months to live. What would you do differently NOW in that case? What would you WISH you had done years prior to today?
The simple fact of the matter is that YOU are in charge of making things better, to implement CHANGE where it is required. Beat the rush -- don't wait until New Years Day to implement changes in your life that need to be done yesterday. Face the fact that you are probably NOT going to win the lottery, and that Ed McMahon and the Publishers Clearing House van will NOT be parked in your driveway next month.
You are encouraged to be thankful for where you are today, but at the same time to recognize that with some changes, things could be better. Better for you, better for your family, better for your community, and the power to implement those changes for betterment, even small ones, rests entirely within your hands.
Define what you want to change and then create a plan to implement that change. If that change is increased financial freedom, then create a roadmap to get you to where you want to be. Learn the skills required to get you there and then take action. Good intentions and a positive mental attitude by themselves will not get you there - ACTION is required.
Nobody is going to hold you accountable to take that action, except your own conscience. You are encouraged to pacify your conscience and take the necessary action. Be thankful for where you are today, but realize that tomorrow is a brand new day and can be even better if you are willing to take the steps necessary to get you there.
