What is an Entrepreneur?

What does it mean to be an entrepreneur? Is it just about making money? Is it just about doing something outside the traditional path of high school, college, corporate career for 40 years and retirement at 65? Is it just about being your own boss and making your own schedule? In my opinion, those are ALL good things but not the whole package. What so many seem to forget is the importance of adding value, being of service and making people's lives better. It's the difference between work and meaningful work. It's the difference between being rich and being wealthy.

My impression is that an entrepreneur is someone who sees a need in society among businesses or consumers that isn't being met, then establishes a profitable business to meet that need.

To me, an entrepreneur is someone who takes on and controls risk. They are the ones who do go against the norms of society to help meets needs of consumers at there own risk.

Haha in my entrepreneur class when the teacher asked what is an entrepreneur, a student said,

"Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so taht you can spend the rest of your life life like most people can't."

I like the text book definition but what does that mean to you. How do you see entrepreneurs, or how do you see yourself?

For me, entrepreneur is someone who can see something that others cannot see and build up a system to make money over there and at end give more value to society.

Entrepreneurs are the 10% of the population that take risks and provides all the jobs to the other 90% of the population.

Entrepreneurs also take the ridicule, lack of sleep, stress and everything else to make it. When they get knocked down, they get up. When something doesn't work out, they keep going. They don't quit.
