My Idea on a Home based PC Repair Business. What do you think?

Hey Everyone. I am thinking about starting a home business. This would be more so a work outside of the home type of job. It would involve repairing customers computers in homes and businesses.

My business would involve the services that we would do.

    • Computer Diagnostics: detects and reports general computer problems
    • Software Maintenance: Software installs, upgrades, patches, removal of viruses and spyware.
    • Hardware / OS Maintenance: operating system installs/reinstalls, Parts replacement and cleaning, troubleshooting and data migration.

At the moment, I have yet to determine what my final prices would be for labor and the mileage costs as well. I am considering charging $89.95 for the first hour and then $39.95 an hour after that. I may also charge a mileage fee of $7 a mile to get to where I need to go from my home or wherever I am at. My main source or transportation would be by either bicycle or bus since I am not a licensed driver and the possibly of rides from someone as well. I currently do not have any certifications, but have taken computer courses in hardware and software through tech school when I was in high school, and I do have experience in all of the above. What do you think of all this?

I don't think customers would care as long as you can guarantee your work. Bottom line is if you can advertise that you're cheaper and quicker than the Geek Squad at best buy, you should do alright.

    PC Doctor,

Sounds like a great way to start. But, your going to need your own professional looking website. This will represent your business and your virtual office.

You can start off by putting up flyers in your near by local community. Since you don't have a car you should try to stay as close to home as you can.

You should also join any organizations in your area to network with the locals. Hand out flyers and your business cards. Let me know if you need any help.

    Kind regards,
