What happens when a domain name expires?

Can someone else buy it straight away? Or does the owner get the change to renew it?

There is a domain that expires on the 19th July, what I want, what would I have to do?

There is a 40 day grace period (depends on TLD) where the owner gets one more chance. Then its fair game for anyone.

If the domain name is highly sought after there will be automated bots trying to pick it up, you may want to consider paying an acquisition service.

Yeah, I've been trying to get wedrink.com for my company WeDrink. The domain expires in August, but I'm pretty sure the guy that owns it is going to renew his ownership if he's trying to charge 15k$ for it...

    Wow!

I totally don't agree with people buying domains like this. I know it's their business etc, but when there are other budding entrepreneurs out there, that a website domain like these could make their career take off, i don't agree.

The only recourse you have is if the name is a trademark and you want to take them to court. Until ICANN reforms (in 50 or 60 years) your SOL.
