What happen when I ignored the power of image?

My father use to tell me that I have to be very careful about my image specially the way I dress. My mom told to be as humble as possible. My father has the thing about the shoes and the dress. He said you gotta look sharp all the time. My mother on the other hand told me the opposite. Be as humble, sit quietly and listen intently. You will learn more by watching and listening. In addition to this. I saw a self-made or founders of company are all wearing down-to-earth clothes. The people who looked sharps are the people who work for them. I’m confused.

A couple of months ago, I’ve been invited for a new business venture. I’ve never met these guys. They are attractive women. Being myself and working for a retail company that focuses on comfortable sporty clothes. I decided to wear as that, comfortable sporty look. Big mistake. I learned it the hard way.

When we started talking, I realize that I have already had a brand and that image doesn’t sit on what they’ve pictured me before we met. I realize after the meeting that I’ve made a mistake on the way I’ve handled myself.

I believe clothes control the way you feel about yourself. Whatever you feel inside of you will reflect the way people projects about you.

Forget about the thing you know. They already judge me before I even open my mouth. I learn that it takes about 10 seconds to make an impression. As soon as you open the door till you shake their hands.

It’s a very painful experience but it is a good mistake.

When I reach certain extent, that’s the only time I’ll take a low road. For now, I have to be as sharp looking as I can be.

As an old sprite commercial said “image is everything”

I'd have to say that this holds true... if you look the part you just stand a better chance of getting it! Image in part is everything, of course you've got to back that up with the way you talk and communicate and with what you know.

You can look at pretty as you want but if people think you are "slow" then they'll run!

Actually, when I started talking, that's when I was able to pull myself up. So taking is only secondary but both are important.

And you only get once shot at a first impression. if the first impression and the image are bad enough, no amount of knowledge and expertise can help you climb out of that one.

    I totally agree.

From the female perspective, there's also that fine line between fashionable and inappropriate. Actually - for both sexes. No one wants to walk into a meeting wearing a suit - they're hot and restricting but there's a reason why people stick with the basics!
