Female entrepreneurs can offer their own unique perspective to business operations. The best female entrepreneurs, in my opinion, are those that don't try to emulate their male counterparts and retain a gentler edge and a listening ear.

Ahhhhh I still don't like being called a woman entrepreneur. It's offensive to me. Starting your own business requires you to be a leader, it should not matter what sex you are. Unfortunately these are the ways of society.

    Have a productive day!

    Hi ladies,

I noticed you've been discussing what it takes to be a successful entrepreneuer. As we appraoch the general election, Gordon Brown has stressed the importance of small businesses to the economy. What single change do you think would have the biggest impact on your business success?

Please feel free to answer our poll and read my client Intuit's small business charter at smallbusinessbritain

    Thanks,
    Lenners

    New and Looking for advice

I ma new to this forum and not sure where to start. I am looking to find the best way or sources to find an investor for my business. I am a photographer with a small studio in need of more equipment. I have several bids out for different accounts, but really need more capital to reallyy expand. I have great feedback on my work and repeat customers. Word of mouth has been my greatest advertisement. Although I am ready to go to the next level, just can't come up with the finances I need to do so. Any Suggestions? Thank you, Ginger

Lark - I totally agree. If we call ourselves women entrepreneurs, then we too are sexist.

Great contest. It is hard being involved in Entrepreneurial endeavors, especially for a woman.

agreed. As long as you are a driven, hard working and focused person, you should be able to succeed despite age, race, sex, nationality, height, weight or other.

    Hi all

I hope this is not a women only discussion. Because if it is then I'll have to apologize for being at the wring party. =0)

Having been building businesses and working with hyper successful people of both genders for nearly 40 years, it is my considered opinion that there are actually very few real tangible difference between men and women with regard to "what it takes".

That is NOT to say that there are not real practical differences between the genders with respect to the blessings, privileges, responsibilities or obligations (you can choose which for you) associated with being female. But it is my considered opinion that the key to navigating these waters is more about designing the right business...the one that delivers what you want in all areas of life....without requiring life-quality sacrifice... then it is about making impossible choices and compromises.

The key then is to be crystal clear about what, exactly, your business MUST deliver in 7 key areas of life in order to deliver the success you desire. Your success is not defined by business metrics, money, profit, market share, etc. It will ultimately ... whether now or 40 years from now...be determined by you accomplishing everything you truly want in all 7 at the same time:

Money and Finance / Business or Vocation / Recreation & Fun / Relationships with others / Health & Fitness / Personal Growth / Community Contribution

I KNOW that we are all taught and socialized to believe that we must sacrifice in one or more of these in service of another....but trust me. Its not true.

Design and build the business that delivers on the all right from the get go.

That's what it takes.... Regardless of gender.

Thank you for allowing me to play in your sandbox.

    Sincerely,

    Steve
