According to me, if you want and expect someone to treat you equally, the first step is to believe you are equal.
and when you do that there wont be a question of what makes "female" entrepreneurs successful, because ultimately i guess, every entrepreneur has to overcome the same hurdles.
having said that, i would still say that just saying and thinking i am at par isn't effective. you have to make people believe you are equal. and that can only be done by being the best at everything you do, which is indeed a big challenge. what i intend to say is, you have to make sure people forget that you are a female, and just respect your work.

Having been building businesses and working with hyper successful people of both genders for nearly 40 years, it is my considered opinion that there are actually very few real tangible difference between men and women with regard to "what it takes".

That is NOT to say that there are not real practical differences between the genders with respect to the blessings, privileges, responsibilities or obligations (you can choose which for you) associated with being female. But it is my considered opinion that the key to navigating these waters is more about designing the right business...the one that delivers what you want in all areas of life....without requiring life-quality sacrifice... then it is about making impossible choices and compromises.

The key then is to be crystal clear about what, exactly, your business MUST deliver in 7 key areas of life in order to deliver the success you desire. Your success is not defined by business metrics, money, profit, market share, etc. It will ultimately ... whether now or 40 years from now...be determined by you accomplishing everything you truly want in all 7 at the same time:

Money and Finance / Business or Vocation / Recreation & Fun / Relationships with others / Health & Fitness / Personal Growth / Community Contribution

I KNOW that we are all taught and socialized to believe that we must sacrifice in one or more of these in service of another....but trust me. Its not true.

Design and build the business that delivers on the all right from the get go.

That's what it takes.... Regardless of gender.
