What Do You Want To Do When You Grow Up?
Are you ready to run your own business? Do you want to own a home based business? Are you in line to become the next entrepreneur on the block?
If you ask children what they want to do when they grow up, their imagination knows no bounds. For reasons which are unclear, over the decades this imagination seems to gradually slip away and before long they may have honed in one career and then steadily advance toward it. Yet in a reversal from this trend, the notion that individuals will retire from the company where they took their first jobs is by and large a thing of the past, and adults are known to change career paths a number of times prior to finally settling down.
If you do not know what you want to do when you grow up, you are in good company. Many a worker on the fast track to partnership suddenly decides to drop out of her or his profession and turns to a completely new work experience. For some this means entrepreneurial endeavors while others will favor a completely new direction in their careers or even work that has nothing at all to do with the career they have built over the past years or decades.
Careers changers such as these will benefit from the help of professional coaches or mentors who can assist in the changes they seeking to make. For example, if an individual knows that they are searching for a creative outlet that thus far has been missing in their work experience they may turn to a career coach to find professions and entrepreneurial possibilities which incorporate creativity. In some cases, these careers may be at first glance considered incompatible with originality, yet upon closer examination it becomes clear that there is a distinct creative angle to the work.
Examples for such careers may be found in the fields of cosmetology, fashion design and modeling, culinary arts, photography, and of course art and music. In this case a career coach will be of use not only to help the budding artist find venues to sell her or his skills and passion, but to also weather the rejection that is bound to come along the way. In the same vein, with the right training and information, the creative individual will also succeed along the way in setting up a home based business that focuses on marketing these skills to the general public as well as professional organizations.
Once you figure out what to do when you grow up – at least for the time being – your willingness to make past work experience count, incorporate previous education, and of course let your passion for your new found career take hold will go a long ways to making up for lost time and you may find yourself quickly moving to the forefront of the field! Individuals with an eye toward entrepreneurial endeavors will appreciate the many possibilities which are open to them at any given time simply because of their advanced knowledge of how business works.
