What do you do for self growth?

    Hi Friends!

As we all know...continually growing ourselves is essential for the success of our business.

I would love to hear what you do to continually grow yourself?

I personally love reading self growth books and speaking with new and interesting people.

What is it that you do?

    Have an awesome day!

    Best,
    Scott

The intellectual jerks on this forum [ones who emphasize that only university/college textbooks are the only sources of quality, reliable information], will tell you that self-help books are a waste of time because the most of the authors' content has compromised credibility because of an alleged motive to only make a sale.

But, I find that there are some good, quality self-help books. I've listened [and read] material by Tony Robbins (speaking of increasing your personal standards, etc), Donald Trump, Zig Ziglar, and some others. I've yet to read The Four Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferris. There's some good advice from those guys who have proven their success in their regarded fields.

I also like to meet new people and gain ideas and new insights into a variety of things to broaden my mind - it's always a plus. What I look for within people are those who have skill sets that compliment my own. Does that make sense?

    That makes complete sense.
I can agree to a certain extent about the self help books...but that doesn't mean that haven't helped you.

I know if I have never read a self help book I wouldn't be where I am today. The books mentioned in my blog post have had an influential role in my personal and physical growth as a person.

I also love Tony Robbins too...and how he talks about that the thing that inspires us to take action is the motivation to avoid pain or gain pleasure...When you think about it, it is such a simple concept, but when you apply it you see that it shows up in everyones life.

    Books, Seminars, e-mails & Podcasts

Since you asked...I agree that self growth is essential for any owner in a business situation. Since I find myself in airports quite a bit, I tend to gravitate towards the business sections in the bookstores. I grab whatever catches my fancy and helps with the business needs at the time. Seminars put on by the local Chambers or vistors bureaus can also be a great source of information and inspiration.

With the electronic age in full swing, I receive a number of different e-mails each week that contain specific information on sales, marketing, and inspiration. Most of the major authors these days seem to have this weekly component. And finally, since I also spend a great deal of time driving, I am hooked on weekly podcasts that make me better in my job. The great news is while books can get expensive (my vice) the e-mails and podcasts are free and offer pertinent real-time information for growth now.

    Hope that helps!

With my very limited time these days, I try to stay active and take on bigger roles in organizations that I enjoy and nonprofits that interest me. In the last year I have become pretty active in three nonprofits that are of interest to me related to professional networking, underprivileged/overachieving youth, and growing interest for youth in the science and technology area. I have found being a part of these to be very rewarding, while at the same time enabling me to meet new people and network with like-minded individuals.

It's become my personal goal this year to network. I joined another forum with an active group from California that aren't afraid to meet up in person. We had a meeting and intend to make it a monthly mixer of entrepreneurs.

I've read my share of self help books but find that I've lost a tolerance for reading lately due to a busy schedule. I do intend to get back to it but I think interaction with people is much more fun these days.

That is awesome! What are the newsletters that you are subscribed to? Could you share your sources of information?

What I Do To Grow Myself

I Read no matter how busy I get. Even if its only 15 minutes a day I get it done.

I also take home study courses. I tend to learn better on my own so I prefer this option.

True. Self help growth books really help a lot. Not only to increase or add knowledge but also food for your soul and a help to your personality. And to learn new things everyday is good. Having a hobby is one option, too.

Interesting Topic with a lot of great advice from other entrepreneurs. I am constantly reading about motivating and inspiring myself, time management and goal setting. I think the most important is goal setting and I would suggest for everyone to take an interest in learning more about it. It really helps you define you goal and set milestones to complete your goal.

I am constantly learning about Real Estate Investing, learning how to putdeals together. I am currently doing market and sub-market research about different possibilities in my area. I am always calling brokers, city officials, etc about the market condition in a certain area.

Also, I enjoy taking time out for myself just to think. Whether its at the gym or drag racing at the illegals, I know....bad habit, it gives me a chance to get out, meet new people and create new ideas.

To continually grow myself I read, practice yoga, and try to keep an open mind to different types of people and points of view. I also take time to myself and do things I enjoy whether thats watching a movie, going for a walk, or just enjoying a meal alone.

    hi Scott Bradley,

You make a good point about improving oneself. I take online motivation and self-improvement courses from here. Found it helped so far.
