What do I do when I have an idea?

I have this idea for an invention. I would probably need a scientists to create it and what not. But I dont know if this idea is feasible. And I dont konw if this idea exist already. I want to ask someone about it but I dont know if that person will steal it. What should I do?

Look up the term "non-disclosure agreement"...and use that whenever you talk about what you are actually going to prototype.

Ok, who should I talk to though?

What are the steps people take when trying to establish an idea/invention?

    do nothing

    drop the fairytale

do real, achievable things, not some hypothetical R&D with some hypothetical scientists

go and make some sales; leave R&D for someone who can afford it

    stop day dreaming

are you kidding "the workds" If you have a great idea go out and test it!

stop thinking that it wont work and go out and test it....thats how I have come to have heaps of success.

the faster you go out and implement it the fast you will know if its a winner or you should throw it on the scrap heap.

who know it could be one small idea that turns your whole business right around. it could make you $100 but it could also make you $100,000 so stop lulling around and go out and test your idea.

I'm pretty sure he meant to refer to a "Patent" Attorney. I have a couple patents pending right now, which is a very lengthy process and can get quite expensive. First go to the www.uspto.gov and research whatever it is you have thought of, to see if someone else has before you. After you have done your research and are positive your idea is unique and patentable, you better make damn sure that there is a market for it. Far too often people think they are going to patent an idea and make millions in royalties doing basically nothing. Too bad this is not the case. Truly entrepreneurial ventures, like ones dealing with a patent of some sort, take hard work and extreme dedication. May sound cliche, but so very true.

We're in negotiations right now, waiting for the other party, and I have nothing to do!!

Here's an idea! let's do lawyer jokes

    -----------------------

A group of dinner guests were blaming all of America’s troubles on lawyers when a woman said, “They aren’t all so bad. Why, last year a lawyer gave me $1000.”
“I don’t believe it,” the host responded.

“It’s true, I swear it,” said the woman. “I had a complicated personal injury case and what with the lawyer’s fee, the cost of expert witnesses, the expense of the appeal and so on, my bill was $41,000. When the judgment only amounted to $40,000, my lawyer simply forgave the difference.”

Aha, dont tell anyone, you could have a million dollar idea. Keep it to yourself. Here is what you shoudl do...

-Make up another Idea that you dont care about...And Use it to learn the process
-Now ask people how to get patents, where to register, name of product....ask as many questions as possible with your fake idea, and after you learn more use it on your real invention/idea. Thats how many people who dont know the process do it.

Dont even think about patents. You are just going to have to trust somebody.
It's a scary thing talking to someone about ur idea but u have to do it. Find someone in the industry that has money and experience.

Patents cost a lot of money and cost even more money to protect.

In a lot of cases the next step is to build a prototype.
