What business can I start in my garage?

I recently bought a house, and have been wanting to start a business for some time now, but could never decide what to start. i want to start something out of my garage because I cant afford a flashy e-commerce website and I cant afford the high cost of c-property here.

    so...

would like to see what ideas some of you come up with.

The garage is 19ft wide and 15ft deep. I also have a small formal dining room thats 10x10.

    thanks.

What are your interests? Boat building? Insulate it and rent it to musicians? Rent it for storage? Weekly/daily garage sales? Do you paint, carve, make stuff?

    Hi new wave,

I don't think you're starting at the right point. Business idea shouldn't generate from the place. You should look at your experience and expertise and also opportunity. Then see if your garage is fit to the requirement to get your goal.

    Hope this help.

Sure, the business idea could come what kind of unused capital could be used more usefully. It this case it's empty space. Skills can be bought in or aquired later.

Many many entrepreneurs have started in their garages and basements. I see nothing wrong with it. I like the recording studio idea, but I have no idea how that business works, and its very expensive.

You could start an ecommerce site or an ebay business. Antiques and collectibles are popular on ebay and are generally pretty easy to get a hold of.

For recording studio you need contacts in the industry (musicians) and it needs investments to instruments and technology as well. Better start to manufacture something there...

You have an unlimited amount of options available to utilize your space. With a desk and a computer you've got most of your office. You can then throw in a few shelves on the side, and look for multi-purpose devices, such as a multi-function printer that supports copying, scanning, and faxing, and you're good to go. Now just think of something that ignites your passion and tackle it head on.

    Best of luck!

I know a few people who do photography work in their garage. You can do professional photography work with lights setup and everything ready to go.

However, something else you might consider is micro job websites like fiverr.com and uphype.com, which are growing really rapidly now. Get in while you can with something creative. Basically think of something you can do in your garage and charge like $5. Be it, video tape something funny like a message or photography something funny. It just depends on how creative you can get.

I got a graphic design gig on fiverr where I take someone's logo or image and apply special commercial effects to it...
    fiverr.com/users/coolguygraphics/gigs/apply-11-commercially-used-graphic-design-effects-to-any-1-image-you-choose-providing-you-back-with-11-different-image-designs

The chances are, most people won't need that service. So the best thing to do, is to create multiple gigs and sort of play the odds. If you have say 10 odd gigs on there, you might get a good amount of people coming in to purchase your gigs. So I say just think of some really creative stuff you can do in your garage, everything else is going to have a fairly large start up cost and in my opinion you shouldn't get into photography or anything like that unless you are really interested in it.

So it gets back to the old rule of doing what you love and the money will follow. Just my opinion, good luck to you!!

A garage isn't really an opportunity, just something you have.

Look at a product business, pick a product you have experiance with, and build your business around the basis that you have space to store the inventory, saving you money in warehousing.
