What are your top sales techniques?

Marcela in Fishbowl Two has been sharing her sales technique to see how successful she can be in selling her Mexican salsas. She's never had any formal training or read any books about sales - all she has is her passion for her product and a great deal of knowledge about it!

Can you sell based on your passion alone?

If not, what are your top sales tips?

I'm not a sales pro by any means but I think people actually really like to know that the sales person is genuine. So, I just try to be myself and really show them the value in the product and that I believe in it.

If you're not the best sales person - just be yourself!

Don't cold call, instead, go to networking events... make friends with the people running the event (or other "movers/shakers") as they will introduce you to people.

Do some pro bono work for people and businesses that can be "power partners" for you - then they will turn around and send you business... warm referrals are much easier than cold calls
I'm a partner at a Baltimore, Maryland SEO company who loves to invest as much money as possible - both in the stock market as well as into my growing agency!

If you're young - NOW IS THE TIME TO INVEST into the stock market -- you will be very happy in 20-50 years, when you retire on a fat stack of cash!

I have a had a successful sales career and I would say absolutely you can sell on pure passion alone, for sure however the problem with reliaing totally on passion you can burn out or there are days that you simply don't feel very enthusiastic and there fore water down the passion. This is why learning sales skills is important, When I hired a new sales rep and they were bursting out of the gates with enthusiasm and passion to start selling I would love it however I knew it was only going to be short lived, this is not a bad thing it is just reality. Even the happiest most energetic person has dull moments at times. Selling is a huge mental game and in the long term you need sales skills and techniques to assist you.

If you have a great product that provides a great value to your customers, you do not need to be a great sales person. If you are selling more of a luxury good that is not necessary to them, then you might need great sales skills. Unfortunately, not many people are born cold-callers. Cold-calling takes practice... I would estimate that about 50-100 calls will make you a decent cold-caller.

If you are dead against cold-calling, I would suggest direct mail campaigns (shaped postcards work best), Google Adwords, promotional items and trade shows.
