    Website virgin

i have lots of ideas and alot would require creating a website. I just recently had an idea for a website that I think would be a huge cash cow, however, I don't know how I would even get started. I don't know how to make a website, and I don't even have time to make one. Can I really trust someone enough to pay them to make my website? And how much would that cost? What I'm thinking of would have paid membership and also allow for small 10cent trasnactions for using what I provide through the site. When I came up with the idea, I checked around online to see if it exists. I sort of does already, but on a very limited scale. Its not a very big operation and I feel that with the right help MY website could become a staple of Acedmic and professional life.

So, are there people I can contactm run through my idea with, and then pay $500-even 2000 to create this? Can I really trust them with my idea?

There are plenty of people out there that can build you a site, just look around. You will need a better explanation of the features your site wil require also. You should write up an RFP (request for proposal) for your site and get quotes based on your RFP.

As far as your idea. People in the web design business are not looking to steal your idea and make the site themselves. They are looking to design a kickass site that can be used in their portfoio. Now obviosuly, it is always a risk for someone to steal your idea so you can have people sign a non-disclosure form if you like. Then they a legally obligated to not use your idea.

Thanks. Have you had a relationship with any people or companies that design sites? Anyone you would recommend? I will look up some people on my own, but I would really like to meet with somone in person if they were to build my site. I'm in Houston.

Are there people who can do this.. yes
    Can you trust them... no

When you involve memberships.. and payment processing.. you'll need a back end database with admin/user features... if you can not find a cheap template from eBay that does what you need then you are going to need to spend a lot of money.

My advice would be to do research on RFP's and PFS (Request for Proposals & Project Flow Sheets). Start by writing up your idea. Then go to developers and get a quote from them. You never know what they are going to say. If your idea is new make sure you also get a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) and make sure that you use a reputable designer.

I'm new to most of this as well... The advice I'm giving you is advice I wish someone would have told me 8 months ago before I dropped a ton of money into a project that still is not completed.

Guru.com is the best website for finding a professional programmer and web designer. It might cost between $2000 to $15000 depending on what kind of solution you want and how good the designer and programmers are. Another thing you need to consider is how you would market your website and get a good return on your advertising dollar. If you can't answer that question then you're probably just wasting your time.

hmm, I guess like most things I should write out a business plan for it. It will answer alot of my own questions and make obvious the big ones I'm not asking. Thanks. When you say alot of money, are we talking around $10 K ?

    I don't think they mean $10, $10x10 or even $10x$10x$10.
