Yeah right. A million bucks in one day selling junk removal services in one county? Why do people like you find it necessary to be such pricks to innocent people trying to sincerely ask for help around here?
BigWill: it depends a lot on what you are selling and has everything to do with how you are driving traffic to your site. If you're using AdWords or Yahoo Search Marketing you'll likely get a few sales if you're selling something people want.
I wouldn't set your sights too high at first so you don't panic if you go through dry spells of days or weeks without sales.
I simply used SEO and try to put relevant key words and content into my pages. It probably took a good 2 months before I started seeing solid traffic from search engines.
As I sell products on my website, I also advertise and run competitions off other more popular sites and blogs.

Hard question to answer really because i would say no 2 sites are the same but i used adwords to kick start each project to get the site/s noticed then after a few months moved over to organic growth which requires ongoing work all the time even when starting revenue was slow but over time it does start to ramp up and well worth it in the end,at the moment i have about 25 sites covering a wide spectrum so that they bring in revenue all year round.
Regarding what is the best revenue earning from a site,if you have just one site you could answer that question straight away but with my setup some are solely adsense earning sites some are pure affilation sites and some are mixed with both so i cannot really give you a answer.
If you water and feed your site so to speak it will grow, all the best for the future.
LOL.
The real answer is there is no standard amount of time before a site starts making money. It all depends on how you are monetizing it, how you are promoting it and the quality of the design and content.
If you have an attractive site with interesting content, just promote it as much as possible and traffic (and therefore money) will come. The best ways to promote, in my opinion, are article marketing and search engine marketing. Both of these actually come hand in hand too. Article marketing (w/ back links) will help your search engine ranking.

Getting that first dollar definitely depends on a lot of variables. I have sites that made money the first day and others that I haven't been able to squeeze a nickel out of.
But having your own product/membership site/coaching program is the best long-term way to make money online.
Find a market, sell an affiliate product to prove that you can get traffic in that market and then make your own product and build your list.
Once you have your own product you can get others to become your affiliates and if you have a list there is always something to sell to them.
