    Question Website name?

been a while since i've been on here... need your opinion.

I have a website that facilita tes the sourcing of products, by Retail Outlets in particular. So it has a directory of wholesale suppliers, manufacturs etc - it aslo has a directory of Retail outlets to allow the suppliers to canvas for potential buyers.

At the moment the site is Retail Hub - I am planning to charge subscription fees from next year, but am concerned with some confusion the name causes.

Some people have commented that they are "wholesale suppliers only" - they seem to think that because the name says 'retail', the website is not relevant to them and they should not list their products on it.

what do you think? should I register a different domain name or does 'Retail hub' work?

The tagline is "connecting buyers and suppliers".

I wouldn't change the domain either, I wouldn't recommend changing your domain - ever - once you've picked it.

You could register another domain that may be more relevant and have it redirect to your current one. Then you have the best of both worlds. You can advertise for either one.

If you are getting feedback that people think it's not relevant to them, maybe you need to be more clear in your web page title and on the main page of your site. Currently your "Welcome" message is rather small text. Maybe make it a bit more clear in there?
Maybe add something like, "We're looking for wholesalers to add to our directory - this is a free service!"

In general I think you have the room for more detail about what it is that you do in your welcome message. Keep in mind, most visitors don't make it past the first page so your site needs to have a clear message what it's purpose is on the main page.

    Hi all

Thanks for the feedback. I do understand the implications with changing the domain, I know it would effect traffic etc.

GuyC - No i dont think that would be a good idea ;-)

The main thing here was trying to establish whether or not the name RETAIL HUB will cause confusion. With the tag line, 'connecting buyers and suppliers' can you see it being used for listings of wholesale suppliers. Does it not sound like it should be listings of retail outlets?

    Dylan,

I think Retail Hub is a great website name because it's short and sweet, and to the point. And the tag line is sufficiently self explanatory. I don't see why wholesalers would get confused, unless they're just not even giving you the time of day to look at what you're doing. Just a thought.

A variation on GuyC's suggestion. You can use multiple URLs but point them to different landing pages of your web site. Each landing page can then be tuned to a specific audience.

Totally agreed. I think you're overthinking things here. Sounds like your setup's in the right place.
