Lightbulb WEB/GRAPHIC designing

Hello everyone, I am 14 and would like to open a web/graphic design business. I could do the designing myself, but I would much rather have extra help. I am fluent in C++,Java,Html, and Ruby. I was wondering if it would be legal to hire someone to help out with the design, maybe giving him/her about 40% of the profit.. This is a little bit urgent, Thanks in advance! BTW: I am living in the US.

Hi

Its great you are so young and you are passionate about doing business. I am not from the US but there may be some laws about people of your age working. I do not think there would be a problem with you working with someone else. If you employ someone, you would need an employment contract which would protect you and would protect them. You would need to check in your state if is legal for someone of your age to sign a contract. You may have to get your parents to sign the contract.

There is an article here about people of your age working. It could be an idea to talk to your parents or a teacher.

Good luck for the future.

Would you be interested in working with anyone you go to school with? Where I live there are some high school students that started a graphic design business and eventually an ad agency at their school. It got a lot of local media attention and now they're a great resource for small businesses that can't afford a big fancy ad agency...just a thought.
