I'd guesstimate anywhere from $2-$5K. I personally haven't dabbled in e-commerce but that's a rough idea if you're looking for a professional web designer.

I'd say about $2500 for a reasonably good web designer. But its how good you want your site to be because those costs can go up from there to over $10k + very rapidly depending on how good and fancy you want it to get.

However, you could do what 'acuravo said - purchase an OSCommerce skin and do it yourself for only a few hundred dollars.

It just depends on you, do you want a professional and original skin and spend roughly $2500 or more. Or do you want to spend a few hundred dollars get an OSComerce skin and edit it or buy an edited template i think someone on here sells them - if you want to know why you should edit an OSCommmerce skin, so it will look different to the standard OSCommerce skins and give your web store something different to others about. This is why i would suggest getting one made yourself and you'd have your own professional designed and original web store.

go to sitepoint.com contests and pay someone $500 to design and code you one. Depending on the items your selling, buy shopping cart software won't be too expensive... hell, you can integrate a paypal shopping cart for free.

I'd recomend buying a shopping cart and paying someone a thousand to customize it. Maybe I could help?

You see, creating such systems from scratch is a lot of work. And it'll probably have a lot more bugs then the solutions already tested by thouosands of users.

Why not just get rid off the overheads and just use E-commerce builder. Just use the template, put your products, and sell.

Yup...I agree with gambit. It doesn't make any sense to spend thousands and thousands when you start unless you have these money and you really want something unique.
My advice to you is to get a turnkey, they are pretty cheap or just use e-commerce builder as gambit advised you. Try to spend more on advertising your site and your products. Later on if your site is profitable you can afford to redesign your site as you want...do that from your profits not paying up front...and remember ...there are loads of sharks around offering services at stupid prices!

A turnkey website it is a ready-made website . You'll just need a domain name and a hosting service and ...here you go...you are online!!

Anywhere from $500 to $10,000 - it really depends on the quality of the solution, and the features you would like to offer to your shoppers. In fact, the amount of products you will be offering really does not matter.
