Want to start a business, Is this a good or bad business ?

Well I want to start a cigar ( Only Habanos those big cuban cigars ) business but only online. Have a website to take orders from there or just have a home office and take orders directly by phone and deliver them the Cigars right then to who ever wants one. Say its an old rich folk at his mansion who doesnt want to drive and buy a cigar at his local shop he can just give me a call and Ill have it delivered. Plus I have a motorcycle so gas is cheaper, and a tip would always be good :b Would this be a good business idea to invest in Habanos ( Cuban Cigars ) ?

Habanos usually range from $5 - $35 dollars
I was thinking of only investing in cigars that are $10 and up so that the delivering service is worth the drive.

    Good Or Bad ?

Actually, it is difficult to say if it is good or bad business idea before you try. I think that you should try it to see if this business work or not, check a demand for a product, etc. Of course you can't be completely sure that this business will work perfectly in the future. That's why you should minimize your investments from the very beginning. I think that it is better to have a website and take online orders. I think that a website is more suitable for marketing purposes. You can order pey-per-click advertising solutions and check the demand for products. So, when you try you will see if it makes sense to do this business or not. But, I think that this idea is effective.

do you need a license for this
If you want to be rich, sell products and services.
If you want to be insanely rich, create and control markets.

I always believe in business, you should follow your gut feeling while taking the initiate otherwise you stay where you you thinking pros and cons all the time. So,get started, because you dont have anything to lose.

I agree with Elsoft, how will you market it?

Websites like Cigars Direct and others (which escape me right now) are a big competitor to you. I would really do research to see how you can beat out the competition and establish a foothold in the market. What will you offer that they don’t?

When you say “give me a call and have it delivered,” do you mean you will delivery locally? I don’t know what kind of stock/resources you have, but there are a good amount of bigger websites out there doing something like this.

You may have to be licensed to be a tobacco reseller. It could be a good business, it's a service heavy business with the way you are describing it. You would really have to make sure to network and go the extra mile to get in with each client's friends. If you got in at a country club you would have a lot of clients.

Lets say I only get business cards and put some posters up spread the word and have no website, I will just take orders by phone have them delivered to their door. Does this still require a business license and would this be a good idea ?

The business licesnse is local to wherever you are. Your city determines if you need a business liscense or not. I do not live in your city, so I do not know. The problem I see, the more important item, is that you are selling tobacco which is a controlled substance.

A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH revealed that most states require a tobacco retailers license. So yes, if you are selling tobacco to end users it would most likely require a license.

I dont think this is a good idea. A) There are no such thing as "cuban" cigars. Well...there is BUT they are very hard to get into the united states, AND secondly the cigars made in Nicaragua, Honduras, Brazil and Dominican Republic are just as good, if not better than cubans. In fact, I'll bet 99% of cigars are from the regions i listed.

    B) I smoke a cigar once a week at my local shop. I enjoy the social experience and the environment. Cigar smoking isn't something thats really done alone. Some rich dude's not going to want to sit in his giant mansion all buy himself smoking a cigar. He's more likely to go out.

    C) Cigars that are ordered online have a taboo from many cigar smokers for not being fresh. I always go into the humidor and pick them out myself.
