    Video Game Business

Hello, my name is Brad and I have owned video games called CybKnight last 2.5 years.

We usually sell games in the store and on ebay. So far, we have been better and better.

I believe game business is recession proof business. Start-up cost are relatively low.

Recently, I found about google adsense and we started our own blog.

To me, definitely games are popular and profitable items. But, it seems not a lot of people are interested in this field.

I wonder if there's any reason.

Why is this a recession-proof market in your opinion? I'm happy that you found a market that works for you, that you are passionate about.

I wouldn't exactly say recession proof, but it does have it's advantages in this economic crisis. 1). People tend to sway more into home entertainment because it is more cost effective. 2). One of our entertainment companies are experiencing some good growth due to online shopping.

    C. You got a link to your website/online store/blog?

Yes, the video gaming industry is very lucrative. I think most people don't get involved with it because whenever someone says "video games" people think of kids and not "income."

I am not sure if it's highly lucrative for us, but we've sold countless game cards for wow.

    It brought us some money.

    Hi man:
I think video games are a perfect option to relax yourself and take a break to let all your stress. I think some people Donīt use It because they think that it quits too much time.
    Good Luck!

Video games are becoming the emerging new media and marketing platform. HUGE VC groups are putting more and more time and money into development projects and game development start ups. A good example is Riot Games. A recent company that is developing a MMOG concept that is only a spinoff of a third party application for it.

Selling games is one thing, developing and CREATING games is a HUGE venture. But funding for these things do not come as Technologies and generic investments options. Creative properties for games have a higher risk, but a greater potential for growth and ROI for the investors who see a true calling and figures to prove the concepts and or staff of the development company.

Now SELLING video games is NOT recession proof, as a matter of fact, there is a great chance that retailers can in time become obsolete. Large retailers with a good standing such as GameStop, BestBuy and other retailers already have the branding to stay above the rest in price and selection (hooray for net 60 accounts). More and more games and downloads are becoming available through video game consoles online, computers for direct downloads etc.

Video games as a rule are here to stay, that goes without question, its just the industry and its evolution that make it so difficult to keep up with.

In my opinion, developing game is very risky business especially in MMORPG. Except Blizzard, Eidos and EA have failed.

Retailing is recession proof for diverse reasons. One of the reason is we are buying from customers for very low prices and refurbish the items.

I think you are talking about mostly brand new games only, but used games are more profitable and huge market.

And, in used games, except gamestop, there are virtually no competitor now.

We have been doing pretty well so far.

what you need to be focusing on is platformers. What i mean that is what you need is a game a game that can easily be re-pumped out. for example you create Game A. if the creativeness and addictiveness of this game is high there will Game A 2, Game A 3 etc... it isn't about making lots of game it is hitting one home run since you will be able to milk its good name in add-on content and sequals for years to come before you have to produce another original IP. Now i know what you are thinking that EA spends millions of dollars and many years producing games (i hate EA btw) but that isn't really the case. If you come up with a fun game that runs on both the iphone and windows mobile platform for example and the game catches on you will be rolling in the dough for the better part of a decade (sequals, DLC etc..). Mobile gaming hasn't taken off until there is a first big game everyone has to play. whoever hits that game first is the winner. no one has the money and muscle to make a killer game for the 360 or ps3 or even the pc for that matter but in the mobile market (especially with XNA released) it is a level playing field between the independant devleoper and market big boys.

gamestop sucks BTW. you should use that in your marketing, "we won't rip you off like those "other" used game resellers". i think you find most people can't stand gamestop and their business practices, agressive marketing is what you need. your biggest competitor is lazy weak and only alive because of lack of competition and he doesn't see you coming. spend your time and money on your service, intregatity and marketing. "if you build it they will come".
