hey hows it goin...im pretty new here by the way...

well I have done various video editing jobs for people making short movies/music videos/commercials but only as a side job...

is there really any demand for video editors?

also I need help attracting people to buy my services...which type of people would be interested in my work...

It seems like a good route to go, especially if you like doing it. I went to film school so I'm quite familiar with the process. As long as there is video, there will always be a need for editors. If you think you're good at it, then you can do pretty well I think.

Which type of people would be interestedi n your work is a question you have to ask though. Look at the people who you've done work for and find similar companies... then show them your demo reel and see if you can land a few gigs that way.

i tell you what i had a friend that did a few things out of his house and had a website where you could download his clips and after he did 4 clips adobe contacted him and gave him the entire premeir suite with all their software for free. i guess because they want you to work on it and make their name known so when you continue you keep buying from them. try it out

heck yea tekmoney. film school. im currently rooming with three film conservatory students. i studied film a bit myself...my school is fairly renowned for their education in film. i studied not out of the conservatory but in the cinema studies program (it's less technical and more philosophy and history oriented i guess). i dropped out and am doing econ now...but it was a pretty good education and i got to do some technical work, video editing stuff included, and i got an internship at a local access tv station that was a blast. its tough to break into film editing or any type of film job really because a lot of the industry is composed of jobs that either can be done with little training or that are very in demand because the film industry is viewed as "glamorous;" as a result who you know becomes very important. try craigslist.com, build up your contacts, if you find someone whose work you like and who you believe in try to cultivate a relationship so that next time they need an editing job they dont have to post...they contact you. to my understanding it is far easier for an editor to get those elusive hollywood blockbuster editing jobs if they know a filmmaker who is called on then to actually be recruited for the editing job on his or her own merits. try to find that peter jackson fellow while he is still trying to make a name for himself. that way when someone contacts him to try a small film like heavenly creatures he has you on his list of possible editors. that way when his film succeeds and they call on him to make lord of the rings hes got noone else in mind but you.
