    Vlog vs. Blog

    Hi there,

Good question. I think that you will start seeing more and more VLOGS popping up all over the net. I think the key to having a successful vlog is to ensure unique, quality topics and good editing that will capture the viewers interest and encourage them to subscribe. With the ability to sell ads and monetize your vlog more and more these days, they will become much more mainstream in the vlogging/blogging world. In my opinion, it would be advantageous to combine your blog with a mini-blog synopsis to outline what each vlog is about in order to assist your viewers.

Let me know if you start a vlog, I would be interested in checking it out.

    All the best,

    Adam T.

thnks for the reply, yea I agree Vlogs have a number of advantages over blogs. I especially think they make people feel for personal with the vlogger, since they can see them. I might post a Vlog, and have a link to a full text transcript. So it'll be both. Any other ideas?

This is the first I have heard about the VLOG idea. This could be the next myspace type of idea for internet communities, but the moderation that would go into it boggles my mind. The vast majority of posters would not be involved in putting up objectionable material, but as the community grows, it will take more moderating.

I would have a look at a site called facethejury.com. It is a forum site with many different topics, if you've not heard of it, that offers links to dating services, as well as offering a membership side for "more access" to pictures and contact information and stuff. I would pattern a VLOG site after both myspace and facethejury.com in terms of capabilities.

I actually think Vlogs are not a good idea. Most people on the internet suffer from ADD. I usually skip sentences and paragraphs, and if I see something interesting I usually go back over the sentences or paragraphs I skipped. Videos players are usually hard to navigate and fast forward. I prefer to read something than to watch it, that's what TV is for.

The idea earlier about the myspace type vlog was interesting. Instead of a vlog, what about a social networking site where communication was via Video comments and posts and such. Would be interesting?

ps. any1 wana comment my blog?

I think a combo of the two is the way to go in the beginning... for example at ProBlogger, Darren Rowse will do the typical daily blog, followed by a very consistent weekly video post.

It's something to look forward to, but not overkill.

    Just a thought!

Yeah, I think weekly Vlogs are the way to go. Daily ones can be done, but they have to be bite sized. As mentioned before, interesting content for your target market and quality editing are a must. Just rambling about your personal life in front of a webcam isn't going to cut it. The shows at Revision3 and Mahalo Daily are good examples of the right way to do it.
