    Red face VC Meeting

Had our first meeting yesterday with this firm, and i felt like walking out. I had gotten real mad to the point that they knew i was mad. But they eventually got better with us. They want more paperwork.

Have you ever walked out or wanted to walk out of a meeting with VC people?

You need to understand that it is their JOB to make you mad.

Well, not necessarily to make you mad, but to pick your business plan apart. If that angers you, you should re-evaluate what you are doing. Understand that it is business, and attempt to see things from their point of view, not just yours. It's often very enlightening to do so, and actually will make you more successful.

    Yeah, I understand that part.

But sometimes I hate when they just want to test a person, to see how far you can go, and then they play the devil advocate, just to push you.

But in the end, they shook our hands, saying that we're one of the few most experienced they have ever met.

It's quite possible that they were testing your character. Ive been tested numerous times.

Edit: Looks like we posted at the same time, I didnt see your response.

    try this..insist on "stand-only" meetings
when you do a 1st meeting with a vc, come in, tell them that you're busy and you'd like to have a "stand-only" meeting

when people are on their feet, the meetings are more on point, the vc won't have the inclination to get comfortable and screw you with trick questions, and the meeting will end quicker - so that you won't have time to put the foot in your mouth and so you can keep informational ammo for the 2nd meeting.

it's also a great way to stand out and be memorable
when I do initial meetings, I insist on standing room only
the thing with vc's is that you've gotta play hard to get (albeit, masterfully)...it tells the financier that you don't need their money - which is exactly the kinds of businesses that vc's invest in

allen morgan covers all these things in his 10 part series
