Using your youth to your advantage?

Iv recently set up my first small business. I sell records (LPs) on a popular NZ auction website (similar to ebay) The local news papers over here have previously done articles on young entrepreneurs and i was wondering if it would be a good idea for me to alert them of my business? I'm 16 so i would probably be around the right age to be considered unlikely to start a business.

Has anyone here ever done this? How did they go about it?

I have never done this, but think it would be an excellent idea as long as you have legally registered your business, and are going to pay your taxes. It is great to bring the spolight on your business as long as you are legally running it.

Oh yes. A carefully written news release that focuses on the why and wherefors of you and your business is a great idea.

I wouldn't stop with the newspapers though; most schools would be a target for exposure to your business, and as you already know, any place where your target age demographic is in numbers.

More power to you; don't forget to focus on the details of running a business; the recommendation to have a business license, and keep up on the tax angle is VERY important. You just have to have those ducks in a row if you are going to be in business.

Don't forget business insurance. Don't expose you or your parent's assets. They could be...at risk if you are doing business.

    Heya!

I've been in two local newspapers here and had an interview with a local TV show.

    Go for it!
Use the media to your full advantage.

I plan on doing it again for one of my other ventures in the near future.

If they're willing to put you in the paper, on the radio or one television... why not?!

    Good luck!

    Um...

I acheived another 1000members to my website.

Just because the newspaper is small... does that mean that you DON'T do it?

No. It means you don't PAY for it. Contacting them about a young entrepreneur story... they will do for free.

    Cheers,
    Amie
