Depends...are you talking about a business related twitter or just personal? For personal I'd say because you're interested in what they have to say/ the celeb factor. However, if it's for business it's a bit of everything: finding what they say interesting, wanting them to follow you etc.

I only follow someone (on my personal account) if they have something interesting to say, or if they're a major influence in my industry.

I follow a Twitter user on several reasons and some of them are:
    • They are the thought leaders in my niche.
    • They are my colleagues and peers.
    • They are my potential clients.
    • They tweet on the same topic (small business, marketing, entrepreneurship) as mine.
    • They have interesting tweets.
    • They offer services that I might need.
    • They offer services or products that I am using.
    • and more...

I've tried the twitter thing, and I just don't get it... it doesn't appeal to me. But I'm just a drop in the ocean.

    - They post interesting articles.
    - They are columnists or bloggers that I frequently read.
    - Famous athletes are interesting.
    - They could also be a friend in real life.
    - Others who provide network opportunities.

I follow people who I find interesting. I try and keep my stream with only people I actually want to read about.

Follow if its related to you (a friend or in business niche) to be able to share information with them. Its useless to follow somebody who is not interested with your posts.
