Tutoring site - good idea to post rates on site?

I'm wondering if it's a good idea for me to post my tutoring rates directly on the site. It may be better to just have the site, and give the rates when people call - it also gives room for negotiation on a case by case basis.

The cons to posting rates right on the site are:

    - The tutors I hire will know exactly how much profit I am making

    - Rate may be too high for some and they will turn to another site / company

    - Makes it really easy for those who want to price out the cheapest rate

Pros to posting rates on the site are:

    - People like to know quickly how much they will be paying

My thinking is that once people call in, I can hit them with the price, and there can be room for negotiation if someone has a problem with the rate.

I'm wondering if my thinking is sound or if there are any bases it seems I haven't covered or thought about.

As you can see your cons outweigh your pros so it will be best to let them call to find out your rates. That way you alone know how much your making.

That's a tough one, but like the above comment, it looks like your cons outweigh your pros.

One of my mentors taught me that:

"When the customer can't see value, they only see price"

Her particular believe was to never reveal your prices before you got a chance to connect with the client and explain your value to them, my personal philosophy doesn't differ much for consultant-type companies.

I would ask one very important question though, Where is the sale going to be closed? Online, or in person?

The site is going to direct them to call in, where they can pay by credit card, or they can choose to be invoiced.

Then I would have to agree with the earlier posts. Show value first, then present prices.

True, but with pros and cons, I find its about the quality of each rather than quantity. People really like to know how much they will be paying very quickly. So it's a pretty big factor.

Still, I am leaning very heavily towards not posting the rates.
