Trying to create a soccer league

Hey guys, I'm trying to think of some ways to raise an income for something I want to do on the side.

I'm in Switzerland - originally from London - working here. I'm so into my football/soccer and over here it's no where on the same level like London and I don't see much team sports here - it seems only kids play team sports - older guys only do gym or hang out in bars at night

    So I'm putting/proposing a 5-a-side soccer league

Going to do a logo / design / make it all look really nice

There is a nice sports hall near me with proper seating and all and will approach them with the idea and ask for prices to hire the hall, say every Sunday - even on Weekdays.

    --

    For 2 hours say - 3 days a week

Games will be 20 minutes each

    --

To enter the league, teams will have to register and pay a fee like - $50 bucks

I will put a cash prize for the number 1 team - something worth it to entice people more

I'm thinking around 20 games in a "season"

Plan to make it really interactive online - like a facebook type of site just for this league. People can comment on results etc / trash talk

    --

My girlfriend works in the main bar of this town - so I plan to approach the bar for sponsorship maybe

    --

I'm trying to think of ways I could raise funds for this

Maybe for people who come to watch I could charge something silly like - $2 per person to come in and watch

    --

Any other ways I could raise funds? To cover my costs for however much this hall is going to set me back?

    Thumbs up

    Hi krupt,

It sounds like you've thought it out very well and have some great ideas. The key will be persistence. You'll undoubtedly run into some obstacles along the way, and getting past those rough spots through perseverance will ensure your success in the long run.

I'm not sure about charging people to attend. Until the league is going strong and well-recognized, you might be hard-pressed to get people to pay. What about concessions at the games? While people might not be willing to pay to get in, they'll definitely buy food and drinks if they're available.

The idea of sponsorships is great. If you're not charging too much, local bars and the like will certainly sponsor teams. Also, as attendance grows, they'll be likely to want to advertise at the arena, on programs, etc.

Good luck to you. It sounds like you're on the right track. Just keep pushing forward, and you'll do well!

    To your success,
    John
