    Traveling

When planning to travel to a new city/country where do you go to find out about that country like what things you could do when there, where to stay, what/where to eat etc?

If I/my friends have someone I/they know over there,I would speak to them.If its totally alien place where everybody would be a stranger,I would use Google and some travel websites, some blogs related to that place and comment on them. And Im sure people will be happy to respond and help you.I was in a similar situation sometime back and I posted on one of the discussion sites and I got some very useful responses.
Go ahead internet is global village.

Trip Advisor is a great place to start. It's a website on everything related to travel, including reviews, deals and other helpful tips and ideas about each place. They also have a forum dedicated to every country where you can interact with others who have been to places of your interest before, where you can ask all your questions and find out some very useful information about your choice of travel.

Yes i agree. trip Advisor is the best place to ask when it comes to traveling. Aside from this, i take a while and ask Google about a certain place and poof! Google has the answer, also i ask some of the people i know that went or live on that place.

You can visit travel agencies in the country where you plan to visit. Trip Advisor is a good start but you can also find direct connection through social media sites. Lots of them are now in social media...

    Wish you luck!

Yeah Trip Advisor is pretty good but you'll find plenty of visits to go to by looking through Google yourself.

I'd google something like "Toronto tourism info" there will usually be a local public tourism website providing necessary info

I usually first ask people I know. Believe it or not, even in this era of bazillion dollar advertising people still rely on word-of-mouth the most. i don't suspect that'll change any time soon.

Second, I do some of the typical touristy stuff like LonelyPlanet
Third. Do nothing. Seriously. Arrive on the spot at your hostel (you should be hosteling, anyway ) and ask people there. That's how you find the real gems.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I asked the question to find out keywords travelers use when searching for travel information about a country they are visiting. I will be creating a site that will provide tourism information for my country. I will have a forum where tourists can interact with locals and other tourists to find out whats the best. Its going to be like trip advisor but only focusing on one country which is The Bahamas.
