I have following questions to you?

Do you want to start it from your home i.e. home based travel company? Or wanna start it with proper office set up? How much finance do you have? Do you have any prior experience i.e work in a travel company with travel agent?

    Looking for your reply.

This industry seems very tough as many local travel agencies have gone over unable to compete with the large online brokers. What is your value proposition and target demographic?

That's a tough market to enter without your own following e.g. bringing a corporate travel account with you or having a steady stream of people you know will allow you to arrange travel for them. There are probably a number of other ventures you could get into with a much higher probability of success.

I don't have direct experience in this area so please take my next comment with a grain of salt. My friend has been doing this personally for years. She would plan the trip including things to do, sights to see, etc... for her customers. Sort of a travel planner in addition to being a travel agent. She personally travels a lot too and explore places all the time and figures out what's exciting and fun to do. For example, her last trip was to New Zealand and she invited many people to come along. On the trip they took a road trip and explored many parts of New Zealand. In addition they went zip lining and bungee jumping among several other things on the trip. Depending on the clients, she plans all sorts of stuff for her clients.

That said, she's been doing this for years and she works hard and sells hard. But unfortunately, she says while it's a great hobby to do on the side, not many people always consult a travel agent so business can be slow. The end result is sometimes she has to end up finding other work. This is especially true for with many sites now assisting people with travel both domestically and internationally. It's a tough market for sure from that perspective. But again, I have no direct experience here and this is just simply what I hear from her so hope that gives you some insight to think about.

Maybe you can start with becoming an affiliate for one of the travel agency websites online. That would involve less startup costs and you would get directions on how to operate the business. Only thing travel agencies are indeed tough to make profitable nowadays mainly because there are just too many of them.
